Hmmm... I think I mixed up two keys.:tsktsk:
I just played part of this mission ("A Heretic's Intervention", I think) with NewDark v1.27 (installed by T2Fix v1.27a) and FMSel. On Normal difficulty, I found a key where I wrote it was. An old savegame made on Expert also had that key in the same spot.
Let's see whether we are talking about the same room and key. The key on a table in the "Novice's quarters" is labeled "High Priest's Office Key" in English. To reach it, you have to go to the lowest level of the Hammerite building next to the Hammerite church. There is an area with three doors there. The ones to the north and east are labeled "Novice's Quarters", while the western door leads to "Priest's Quarters", according to the plaques above the doors.
The "High Priest's Office Key" can be found easily when going through the northern door. Once you reach a point again where you can go multiple ways, there is a room to the northeast which has two archways. Both openings lead to the corridor running from the east to the north at this point. Go through any of these two archways, and you should enter a room which has a lit candle on a table. In the center of the table, there is a yellowish key. This is the "High Priest's Office Key" I was writing about all the time. To the south and across the corridor, a novice is sleeping. A Hammerite patrols the corridor and goes by every few minutes.
This key will, however, not open the door to the Priest's quarters which I mentioned above. The priest living in these quarters close to the novice is not the High priest.
The High priest lives in the same building, but on the upper floor, between one of the entrances to the building and the armoury. The High priest's door has a window (although one cannot see through it), and to the left of the door, a plaque reads "High Priest Ronald". This door can be opened with the "High Priest's Office Key".
According to Ricebug's notes, the key to the Priest's quarters can be found on a table in High priest Ronald's room. With it, you can unlock the door with the label "Priest's Quarters" described above. There is also another unmarked door not far from the one I just mentioned. That unmarked door can also be unlocked with the key from Ronald's table. Both lead into the same area, I think.
If that does not solve your keyfinding problem, please tell us what mission you are in and which of the keys you cannot locate. If it is one of the two I wrote about, please also tell us which version of Thief 2 you are playing and which FM loader you use. Maybe then, we can find out what is wrong.

Baeuchlein, thank you for the answer. I've been there where you said the key was, but I didn't find that key. I still have the priest's quarters key and have been there and I have a key, just named key from behind the bed in the barracks. So I can't open Priest Roland's chamber, but I already got the priest's quarters key. I think I'm using the 1.25 or 1.26 version and FMsell. I hope this helps.

I have now tried several things, including playing it with an english version of Thief 2 NewDark v1.25, but without any success. I can neither explain how you could obtain the Priest's quarters key without opening High Priest Ronald's office door, nor do I have any idea on how you could proceed in the mission. The only explanation I can come up with is that somehow, a strange bug happened to you which was never reported before. Other than replaying the "Heretic's intervention" mission, I have no idea what you could do. Sorry.
