Yes, and yes.
I use the former frequently in my texture packs.
The latter, in fact, is the entire reason for this thread. NewDark is compatible in-game with textures that are hardware decompressed, but the shop screen where you buy shit like flashbombs is always software like previously stated -because it's part of the game menu UI, I guess- which results in a crash when the program tries to load that kind of compressed texture and fails.
Maybe something for Corbeau and co to check out, if possible.

That wasn't the intention, just wanted to know if ND had some of the same functionality etc. Its shame ND can't to bump maps, yet...
