he would probably notice when playing the orig game, but yeah, orig mesh.crf corruption could cause that as well.

Yeah I agree it's far-fetched, especially since if the CRF wasn't found there would be no models or skins either. Still, that is a symptom of unavailable .cal files and nothing else I know of.

If you have Dromed installed in your T1/G folder, fire it up and load the suspect mission file. The monolog output will tell you what's missing, etc.
The output is saved to monolog.txt.
EDIT: I fired this mission up via DarkLoader, and everything works. It uses stock mesh resources, so either the install is corrupt or the mesh.crf itself is corrupt.

I can tell you that this has happened with more than one T1/TG FM under the TFix, New Dark, FMSel regime. Which suggests there is something more going on than a download failure. Unfortunately I can't recall if it has happened to every T1/TG FMs in that era.
Also, clearly more than one person has this issue, even if it is only a small number of players.
I have the Sold Out T1 disc. This installed just fine on another machine pre New Dark etc. I see it has a file called mesh.crf (5,632 KB dated 11/11/98) in a folder called /THIEF. I just copied that over the the same file (same name, size and date) in a folder called THIEF/RES on the affected machine, then resumed the FM. No change - still some AI are scrunched up some are not. (Perhaps I should reinstall the FM and try again - not sure.)
I also did a Skip FM in FMSel and had a quick look at some OMs. The AI I could see all appeared fine.
Anyway, it seems to me there should be a stepwise way of trying to identify where the problem lies, even if it is not quite the steps I have tried so far.

yeah, there is your problem - my mesh.crf has 7,44 MB (7*806*921 bytes). guess it's time to implement crf md5 checks into TFix.
so yeah, everyone who has incorrect crf files will have issues in most, if not all FMs.

I don't follow. Why would a T1 set of files on my Sold Out disc work perfectly well with FMs prior to New Dark etc, but not afterwards?
Yandros on 30/6/2014 at 18:29
Could this be a T1 mesh.crf vs. TG mesh.crf thing? Are you trying to play a TG FM using T1 resources perhaps?
Ricebug on 30/6/2014 at 20:14
I know we've kicked this horse before, but... make sure you're not playing from a saved game after overwriting the mesh.crf. Otherwise, nothing will change.

it wouldn't. if the resources aren't there, they cannot be loaded by both oldDark and NewDark. unless you are running an oldDark install where it works at this very moment, then you are probably just experiencing false memories.
//nabbed mesh.crf from my T1 install (5.5MB), two pages (100+) of model load failures when opening the mission in Dromed. no way this could ever work properly with the non-gold mesh.crf file.

So Marbrien, long story short - you can't play a TG FM with your T1 install without these sorts of problems.
