Why don't you just download it. IIRC there's a mini CD image included that let's you play just fine. And expect some extensive modding. There's a lot of interesting stuff for MW4.

There was never a free release for Mechwarrior 4: Vengeance nor the Black Knight expansion. It was only Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries which had a free release, and even that one has big strings attached. In particular, it has a big game-changing mod permanently attached, so if you want the original game balance (as I do), you cannot use the free release. Anyway, I'm looking to back up my original disks of the first two, not Mercenaries (which I can't back up because it is lost in the Abyss).
Hmm! That Hawken looks interesting. It's no replacement for Mechwarrior (apples and oranges), but I enjoy powered armor as well as battlemechs.
