So is it actually worth grabbing a PS2? I notice that amazon.co.uk are selling them for around £44 which is a great deal!
ive never really had a console and refuse to shell out 300 odd quid for a ps3 and i refuse to buy an xbox because we all know they break eventually...however the ps2 is just too tempting at this price...whats good about it? best games? also can i get a wireless controller/hack it to be a mini-media centre? and does it play dvds region free?

PS2 is a solid system and has pretty much made it worthy of any gamer's repertoire.
There's plenty of PS1 and PS2 games worth getting. Silent Hill, Metal Gear, The Warriors (a personal favourite), Manhunt (though I like the PC version better), Siren, so on and so forth.

PS2 is an amazing console.
Actually I should say that PS2 is a terrible shitty console but its game library is unparalleled in size and quality.
I'd offer some game suggestions but I have no idea where your tastes run.

Price drop? In the UK?! It's less likely than you think, mate! Though, to be fair, it works out reasonably with the current exchange rates. If it's 99£, that works out just under 110€, compared to the 99€ the EU price cut would result in. It's only the US that gets it notably cheaper, with 99$ going for about 75€.
Though I think the bigger implication here is what raph just pointed out. All that rambling about a PS3 price cut might turn out to be perversely half-right. In which case many of us will have set themselves up for a nice ol' April 1st emotional bait & switch, through no fault of Sony's, even. Well played.

There is HUGE amount of games for PS2, and even though absolute majority of them are.... well, childish (comparing to PC games), there are enough masterpieces that justify buying of PS2 for anyone who at least doesn't hate action games. Shadow of the Colossus, MGS2/3, Ico, God of War 1/2, RE4 etc.
