it's... there's something very compelling about it. Gameplay's alright, but the atmosphere is brilliant.

Eternal Darkness is a terrific game, one of the best on Gamecube. The narrative structure was utterly compelling, the Sanity effects were awesome and for once it was a Survival Horror game with controls + camera that didn't totally suck.
There was one really effect sanity effect where it looks like all your saves are being deleted. That genuinely caught me off guard and had me panicking for a few seconds.
I have a hard time believing that Eternal Darkness and that POS Too Human are by the same studio. WTF happened to Silicon Knights?

You people are fucking pussies if you think Eternal Darkness is freaky. The sanity events completely lose their impact when you realize they don't actually have an impact.

dethtoll, this is one of the few times when I must disagree with your opinion.
Eternal Darkness was a fantastic game, with classic Nintendo style gameplay, and incredibl re-playability.
Granted, it may not have been the scariest game out there, but all of the characters were well realised, the story was compelling and the method of delivery inspired. Discovering new characters' stories through exploring the mansion and then playing through those stories was fantastic, as was exploring the areas in different time-lines.
And to top it off, it had a wonderful Lovecraftian flavour.

Yes sir Eternal Darkness freaked me out alright. (To be honest so did Halo, I am indeed a pussy) I am a total whore for atmosphere and Eternal Darkness has it in spades.

Fullbright Resident Evil clone with a few gimmicks and a pseudo-Lovecraftian plot. Gameplay is tolerable and writing is decent but it's nowhere near as scary or as good as anyone wants to pretend it is.
