Original thread title:- "Disappointment with the PS3 as a gaming platform"
The PS3 is an awesome media hub; with the Blu-ray playback, built-in wifi and DivX/XviD playback, I could easily see myself phasing out my Xbox1 w/ XBMC... if only it supported more open source codecs and containers. (Also too bad that the European PVR addon was reportedly a disappointment.)
But it's been a good few months since I last played a game on my console. PC is my primary format and with multi-platform console exclusive releases I'll usually just opt for the 360 version, due to convenience issues (Thin walls in the house. At night I can shift the 360 into the computer room, plug it into my 22" monitor via VGA and use monitor headphones. PS3 doesn't support VGA.)
It's kinda sad that I can name all of the PS3 exclusive titles that I definitely want to play on one hand.
MGS4
Yakuza 3
Rya ga Gotoku: Kenzan (Yakuza spin-off)
Heavy Rain
The maybe's occupy the other hand.
Uncharted
Killzone 2
Team Ico's next title
God of War 3 (haven't played the PS2 games, only the PSP prequel, which was good.)
Forbidden Siren remake

I'm pretty torn on the PS3 myself, to be honest. On the one hand I want to like it, but on the other I can't justify paying that price for a system with so few games that I want to play.

£199 and I'd consider picking one up, but the cheapest one is getting on for twice that of the mid-range 360, which is just plain stupid.

This. If I were to buy a console, I'd want to go for the PS3, since X360 "exclusives" are more likely to land on the other Microsoft "platform", which we all know and love, than the PS3 ones, but the price tag on that thing is simply ridiculous.

Seems to me that this is all Sony has cared about ever since the PS2 was in developement - that thing was marketed as a potential 'home entertainment system' rather than a straight games console.
I wonder how many people bought a PS3 back when it was new just for the Blu-Ray player.

My wife works in a Sony Centre shop, and she sells lots of PS3s with new TVs, usually pushing them as blu-ray players over anything else; they are generally better and faster at playing blu-rays than blu-ray players tbh!

I don't get it. You say the PS3 is a disappointment and your main argument is that... there are *only*
eight titles you have interest in?!?
Heck, I remember playing the N64 only for Goldeneye and Perfect Dark... and on rarer occasions Mario Kart 64 and Conker's Bad Fur Day. That's it: four titles. Of course, nobody would ever dare calling that console a disappointment, isn't it?

I realise it's off-topic, but is your PS3 backwards-compatible with PS2 games? The first two games are great.

Did the N64 cost nearly £300 new, too?

Ignatios:
I wouldn't be the expert but I belive you have to buy the 80 gig model for that to work.. and for some reason they stopped making them.. or they dont make very many or something like that.
