I don't know where EvaUnit02 works, but I bet it has something to do with spreadsheets.

Finally, a Sony official makes a direct retort to Kotick's statements about the (

http://www.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUSTRE5670C120090708?feedType=RSS&feedName=technologyNews) Reuters as saying about Activion's CEO that "he likes to make a lot of noise" and that it's all part of the business. Furthermore, he dismisses the possibility of a PS3 price cut with the following:
Quote:
"I (would) lose money on every PlayStation I make -- how's that for logic."
Odd. I get the idea, obviously, but is the statement accurate? I was under the impression that both Sony and Microsoft were already selling the console units at loss, counting on making their profit from the royalties they charge game publishers per title sold for their platform.

With Blu Ray included, they have to be. I think he just means the loses will be more significant with a price cut. It's not very good logic for rejecting a price cut though - other consoles throughout history have sold at a loss to grab market share, the end goal being to make dough via the actual games themselves.

There is the fact that this generation of hardware has been far more expensive than the last. As far as the X360 and Microsoft go, Microsoft has had - and still does have - money to burn, and Sony doesn't. Factor in escalating development costs for both hardware and software due to the whole 'HD generation' push and the recession, and maybe the reluctance towards more price cuts is understandable.
However, if what you're looking for from Sony spokespersons is actual logic instead of bluff and bluster... well. This is Sony we're talking about. You know, the same guys who thought inviting people to eat food from inside decapitated goat carcasses would make for good publicity.
