I was disappointed with PS3 even before it launched.
Microsoft: It's more of the same, you know you want it.
Nintendo: Wiimote!
Sony: PS3 IS NOT A CONSOLE
wot.

I own a Wii, a PS3 and a modchipped classic Xbox and the PS3 is the console that saw the most action since I got it in March.
I sort of got around the price problem by buying it during a trip to NY, taking advantage of the US rates against the Euro. Drawback is, I can't buy the games here in Europe. (I knew that in advance, but when I keep reading these bullshit "PS3 games are not region locked" statements every now and then... :nono:)
I got Motorstorm, Resistance, Blazing Angels, NFS:Carbon, am waiting for my copies of COD4, Bioshock and Dead Space to arrive and waiting the release of Resistance 2 and Killzone 2.
Tempted to get Uncharted: Drake's Fortune too.
Overall I've been extremely satisfied with it and it was well worth the price. Plus I get a native Zone 1 player for DVD/BluRay meaning I can buy US imports and shit.
YMMV.

Did the N64 cost nearly £300 new, too?
Also the N64 actually had dozens of excellent games, including a handful of the best ever made.

I haven't been too disappointed with the PS3 so far - I knew what I was getting into when I got it. Thing is, as Ostriig said, a lot of those X360 exclusives make their way onto the PC anyway.
This, coupled with a price factor that for me was basically rendered moot - where I live the price difference between X360s and PS3s is almost negligible - led me to go for the PS3.
Between the exclusives I've managed to get into so far - MGS4, Uncharted, and LBP - and the media features, I'd say it was worth it.

I don't live in Europe, but I don't mind spending a given amount of money on a console that I have interest in.

"Excellence" /= gamer's interest.

I realise it's off-topic, but is your PS3 backwards-compatible with PS2 games? The first two games are great.
Nope, but I still own a PS2, so that's not an issue. Being able to upscale the PS2 games to HD resolutions would've been nice though.

It's a damn crying shame that this thread has gone on this long, and not a single person has mentioned Valkyria Chronicles yet. I played the couple of missions at a friends house, and it impressed me so much, I almost considered getting a PS3 just to play this one game.
It's that good.

Give it some time, I have been underwhelmed by the line-up of every console I bought so far which must be every console that's for sale. It gets most good 360 games and there more then enough exclusive goodness to look forward to. I got a standard TV so can't comment on HD but the PS3 has a better picture imho the xbox graphics tend to scream in your face.
