I like the design, the more ascetic and industrial look the better.
Don't like 360's design at all.

Hm, what do you mean by "getting it"?
I am not interested in a console, but I want to buy a blu-ray player. Considering an average player is still about $250, I might decide to pay $50 more and get a PS3 instead. So yes, Sony is "getting it". (although I must admit I think $50 is still a bit high for a console, so I'm not sure if I'll go with the player only or the PS3.)

$50 high for a console? Compared to what? Not PC gaming, certainly.
Yeah, this is nice and all, but really disappointed in lack of backwards comparability. Years ago, when my mom decided to get me a PS2, the jerkass EB rep talked her into buying a used one, and it ended up having a defective laser that wouldn't read PS1 games and CD-based PS2 games (namely ICO). By the time I figured this out it was too late to return it.
I really want to play my copy of ICO :(

I still have my copy of ICO - european version with superior box art, in cardboard, with manual and everything. I figure in several years it'll pay for half of my new gaming PC

Pardon, c'était stupide. That was the price in Euros like everyone pointed out, I got a bit mixed up there. It should be ~£250.

The slim model is still huge. I thought it would be similar to the tiny PS2 slim.

(
http://kotaku.com/5340337/sony-explain-why-the-ps3-slim-has-no-backwards-compatibility) A Sony marketing man explains why the Slim has no PS2 backward compatibility. He can go suck on a bag of dicks.

It still has a 2.5" laptop sized HDD in it. Part of the reason the original PS2 was big as it was because it had a big gaping bay designed for an addon HDD that most people hadn't bought (which was never even released by SCEE in Europe/Australasia).

I can't access Kotaku from work. Could you perhaps summarise his justification for the lack of BC? It'd be much appreciated.

<Sony> People buy the PS3 for PS3 games, not to play PS2 games. Suck it.

Ah. Lovely. Thanks for the summary. It's almost not worth calling them out on their own circular logic.
