It's a damn crying shame that this thread has gone on this long, and not a single person has mentioned Valkyria Chronicles yet. I played the couple of missions at a friends house, and it impressed me so much, I almost considered getting a PS3 just to play this one game.
It's that good.
Quoted for truth.
Valkyria Chronicles is simply awesome to play. Fact of the matter... Valkyria Chronicles & Disgaea 3 were the only two games I was interested in on the PS3. Since someone gave me a PS3 as a gift, I went ahead & picked both of them up along with a few recommended titles. It's strange too... of all the games I bought for the PS3
(Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, MGS4, Disgaea 3, & Valkyria Chronicles), Valkyria Chronicles is the only one I've even touched.
Had I not gotten my PS3 as a gift, this game would've definitely made me consider it as well.
As he said: (

Add my vote for Valkyria Chronicles. I picked up shortly after it came out and have been playing it ever since. I'm at the last couple missions now, and enjoyed every minute of it. It's one of those games that I enjoy playing all the side missions and even doing skirmish battles to get more play time out of it :)
Beyond that, I have Little Big Planet, which is stalled until my friends are available for more multiplayer, MGS4 and Uncharted, both of which I enjoyed immensely and have finished.
I'd say it's been worth it so far.

Seems to me that this is all Sony has cared about ever since the PS2 was in developement - that thing was marketed as a potential 'home entertainment system' rather than a straight games console.
I wonder how many people bought a PS3 back when it was new just for the Blu-Ray player.
If I remember correctly this was an effort to cash in on a lighter tax on media centres or something, I'll to find some linkage later.

The biggest, most stupid, mistake a console manufacturer has made - removing PS2 backwards compatibility. If all PS3s had this it would be SO much more desirable.
And iirc its the 60Gb models that had backwards compatibility.
But you can pick up a PS2 for cheap these days anyway. Just such a shame.
Seeing as I'm considering getting a PS3 this Xmas - could some PS3 owners please list some good games for it?

I don't live in Europe, but I don't mind spending a given amount of money on a console that I have interest in.
What the hell is this gibberish? So if you were interested in a game console that cost ONE MILLION DOLLARS, you wouldn't mind spending that? Because that's essentially what you've said.

Did the N64 cost nearly £300 new, too?
The N64, like most consoles from the Atari 2600 to the Dreamcast, had a launch price in the US of $200.
Edit: And after pulling that statement totally out of my ass, I'm pleasantly surprised to see that all 3 systems did, in fact, launch with an MSRP of $200.
DaBeast on 14/12/2008 at 21:45
N64 games averaged a retail price of £50/$100.

Has there actually been a point in history where 50 pounds was anywhere near 100 USD?
DaBeast on 14/12/2008 at 23:02
Before the market crash the pound was close to two dollars.
