Just out of interest, am I right in saying that the 40Gb PS3 is exactly the same as the 80Gb version with the exception of hard drive capacity?
Depends on which 80GB you compare to.
For instance, mine has 4 USB ports and a flash card reader - other 80's don't; and according to the chart on wilkipedia, no 40GB has those. It also came with a wireless DualShock 3 controller. I don't know what the 40 has.
Check the chart on wiki: (

Wow, the new ones don't even have ANY PS2 compatibility? Meh.

My xbox360 went tits up the other day (red ring), and it apparently took my component cables and the harddrive along with it. I was able to revive it, but now it crashes every time I try to load up a downloaded game like Braid or Bionic Commandos Re-armed.
I decided to replace it with a ps3. I was able to get a refurbished older system that is backwards compatible off of ebay for $30 more than I'd spend on the latest "downgraded" model. Honestly, every game I can think of that I'm looking forward to is a multiplatform game (Riddick, Arkham Asylum, UFC Undisputed 2009), and I just can't wait to check out Persona 4 (my ps2 died long ago).

I wholeheartedly agree with the list of recommended games in that massive PS3 analysis.
Uncharted, while there is nothing terribly innovative in its gameplay, is so far the pinnacle of that type of game. While the acrobatics are not as fancy as in Tomb Raider, in my opinion the strength of the characters and gameplay mean that Uncharted has surpassed the Tomb Raider series (Both the first one and the new series started with legend).
Another game I might mention is Valkyrie Chronicles. Its basically a combination JRPG and turn-based strategy game. It takes a bit to develop, but its got a very good story, a nice cast of characters, and solid gameplay mechanics. In the words of Captain Hammer "Not my usual, but nice"

Yep, full PS1 compatibility but not even a smidgen of PS2 love. One of the few things stopping me from buying is the hope that at the very least the software emulation will be added back in later.

You got good-ish ps2 emulators nowadays anyway. So not a massive deal really.

Heck, I remember playing the N64 only for Goldeneye and Perfect Dark... and on rarer occasions Mario Kart 64 and Conker's Bad Fur Day. That's it: four titles. Of course, nobody would ever dare calling that console a disappointment, isn't it?
It was a
major disappointment. The consoles before the N64 had plenty of good games, and when suddenly there were only a few. I have 20+ NES games, 30+ SNES games and 70+ PS1 games. And the N64? Not anywhere near that. Not to mention it was (
http://www.overclocked.org/OCdoubt.htm) freaking blurry.
The original Xbox was worse, though, only having Ninja Gaiden Black and Panzer Dragoon Orta. The rest of the good games were released to the PC.

Aye, same here. I have about 50 PS2 games, and my PS2 is dying (making a lot of noise and give long loading times), would happily buy a PS3 if PS2 compability came back, and if they dropped the price a bit more.
But the only exclusive PS3 title I want to play is the upcoming Yakuza 3, and that's very weak. They need more titles that will catch my interest.

Do you? I ran Disgaea on PCSX2 smoothly(For bragging rights mostly, game was unbearable) but then again a good dev team could port it to something like Amiga. I talked to a guy who claimed he played FFX smoothly at a rig very similiar to mine... at the same time, the PCSX2 devs themselves say at the site that most games will still be unplayable for several years.
Hmm I guess I could check it out myself since I still have my PS2 discs... to the Batcave!

Not all games run good on it mind you. FFX does run well on it apparently (which doesn`t surprise me considering how often people used to rant about that one damn game over at the pcsx2 forums) as does X2. Heres a few others that run either perfect or at a good playable standard:
Devil May Cry 1 & 2 (3 runs a bit glitchy)
Disgaea 1 & 2 (as you mentioned)
Dot Hack series (not the GU games though)
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X
Silent Hill 2
Theres heaps more than that, but those are the ones that matter to me. I disagree completely with you on Disgaea also. I absolutely loved the first game.

I love both the PS3 and the 360, but I have to admit, almost every title released on the 360 supports 1080P, whereas only a select few do on the PS3.
Almost every title on the PS3 is 720P.
Edit:
I've been doing some reading up on this today, and it looks like the 360 is a little creative with the truth in these regards.
Apparently, there are more native 1080P titles on the PS3; the 360 rather naughtily upscales the majority of its titles.
