I picked this up last week based purely on a recommendation I read in a copy of an old PCGamer I found lying in a heap in my room.
Has anyone else played it?
Its basically a take on all those Lucasarts games but with a twist that all the action takes place inside either your own mind or someone elses; the plot (although i admit i'm still near the start of it) forcing you to engage with people and figure out connections between characters.
Synopsis (From (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychonauts) wikipedia note)
In Psychonauts, the player controls Raz (short for Razputin), a mysterious new arrival at a training camp for Psychonauts — elite special agents who use their psychic powers to combat psycho-terrorism and retrieve information from inside people's minds. After honing his own mental abilities, Raz discovers that the camps's own coach Oleander is abducting cadets from the camp with the purpose of stealing their brains. Raz must stop him from creating Psychic brain Tanks! It has some nice little touches like "locking up secrets" which are literally locked behind closed doors or in boxes you have to open to get to.
Anyway, I highly reccomend it.
Oh and its funny too, and the lead character is called Rasputin and he has a large head with goggles.
And it has jokes involving squirrel nuts. What more do you want in a game?

I and I think many on this forum know Psychonauts.
You will find much Psy-Love here on this forum.
I myself, HATE jump-and-run games and I played THIS ONE. should tell you enough about how much I love this game. someone should do a walkthrough with all the cutscenes, would be like the best comedy feature gamefilm ever.

I put up with the incredibly horrible load times in the PS2 version to play this game. It's that good. I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel.

No, but Tim Schafer made LucasArts adventure games, and Psychonauts plays like an action version of the stuff he did earlier in his career.

No, Jason, you don't understand - Zylon was nitpicking a very specific point, you can't just counter the metapoint sensibly like that, it ruins his entire raison d'être.
I've heard the Psychonauts love forever and a day. Maybe when I start playing PC games again I will finally get around to playing it.

Just so we're clear on this, you do realize that Tim Schafer made Psychonauts, right?

I always thought Grim Fandango and Full Throttle were excellent titles, grand old adventures that they were. LucasArts kicked ass. I wish they'd made Psychonauts. :(
Who's this Schafer guy, again?

Basically if you don't play Psychonauts you are missing one of the most imaginative and involving games of the last couple of years...
Oh and
the Milkman level
is one of the most hilarious things that I have ever seen in a game as well as being a rather interesting look at what it's like to have totally lost your marbles.
