The official Thief world? Again, Thief: The Dark Project came at a time when gaming was on the cusp of a revolution. For many of us, the game represents an era now gone. Warm fuzzy memories of playing Thief at Christmas time knowing you had something on your screen that few others were keen to. Unfortunately, no matter how rabid our fanaticism, the reapings were not quite what we had expected and the game faded into minor obscurity. Then Thief: Deadly Shadows came along and introduced the series to you fine people. Understand that while Thief: Deadly Shadows may bear many "resemblances" to Thief I and II, it is *not* Thief III. You know, it kind of reminds me of Ultima IX and Might Magic IX. Two revered series that ended on a rather insultingly humorous note. Knowing what I know about Thief, I couldn't keep a straight face through the first half of the damn thing. The only thing a future Thief multiplayer would be good for is the old fans going back and somehow playing the first title with all of us being the Guards and whathaveyou. Maybe all the newbies could take turns being Garrett, and we could show you firsthand what Thief is really all about...
:ebil:
First off, I've been playing Thief just as long as you have and I too have those warm, fuzzy memories. ;) Indeed I was disappointed with Thief 3 and felt rather let down at times while playing it. But the story still came to a very final conclusion, even if it wasn't all the fans had hoped for.
My point, though I made it in an admittedly convoluted way, was that multiplayer is the only thing that no official developer has touched on. There is no "canon" Thief multiplayer. I'm of the opinion that any attempt to make Thief 4 would be a mistake (law of diminishing returns and all that). I just think that if it were to be made, it would need something fresh and new, and a multiplayer Thief game could be that.
If you'll allow me to indulge in a tenuous metaphor for a minute, the Thief series bears some similarities to the Alien films. The original Alien was a classic piece of sci-fi horror, and it was followed by the different, yet equally good Aliens. Then David Fincher made Alien3, which was very different to the first two and was vilified at the time (although in retrospect, it's not that bad, especially if you watch the director's cut). Then there was the gratuitous pile of stinking offal known as Alien Resurrection.
Using this as a metaphor, the last thing I want to see is Thief:Resurrection.

Oh man do I agree with that.

:cheeky: Good point.

Put Thief 4 in the right hands and you don't have to worry about it being a piece of crap sequel to the other titles. There is nothing set in stone here. Just because the first two were good, and some would argue that 1 was better than 2, does not mean that each subsequent game will be crap. Blame the umentionable title on Ion Storm, don't judge Bethesda based on what Ion Storm did with their control of the thief universe. There is the potential to revive this great game and it's equally great setting and do something amazing with it. Where is the faith, I ask? This isn't over yet.

It´s true.
Think of Prince of Persia...
The first one was a classic.
The second one was just as good as the second one, but with better graphics, althought the novelty factor died.
The third one was 3D, had better graphics but people didn´t like it very much.
Then came Prince of Persia - Sands of Time
A total success that revitalized the series.

Also - I certainly hope that PoP2 was as good as PoP2 or we'd have some space-time continuum rift, no?
Zach - that does look tops. But I can't find the actual game there :(

It doesn't bother me.
But your constant bitching about is sure annoying. Hope you find a new kick to get on to before long.
