And you know this because you've been around a lot longer than me, right?

Sure, if youre on a WoW forum or something, im just saying i never see it that often, and its seen as bad form
anywhere. I've been on the net long enough to learn quite a bit, thanks, plus i play my fair share of MMOs, and know most of the slang/jargon/whatever. But im not into virtual pissing matches, come to my house, then we can
discuss this over a nice hot cup of tea, hmm? :thumb:

Where "nice hot cup of tea" = "fistfight to the death", right?

But what if the game is done right? What if whoever makes it does a good job? Would you still be against it?
The Law of Diminishing Returns brings up a good point, but in no way should be considered something which cannot be broken. Some sequels are good, some are bad.
Daggerfall was good. Morrowind was great. Oblivion was good.
Thief1 was great. Thief2 was good. Thief: DS was decent.
Hitman was good. Hitman2 was great. Blood Money was good.
Shogun TW was good. Rome TW was great. Medieval was great.
C&C was good. Tiberian Sun was great. Tiberium Wars was great.
Unreal was great. 2003 was good. 2004 was good.
Ghost Recon was good. GRAW was good. GRAW2 was great.
Perhaps you disagree but I see no blatant pattern here. The best game can come anywhere in the series, so thinking that every new game is gonna be worse than the older ones is a bad way of thinking. If you're always worried about the next game not living up to your standards you will be playing Solitare and Skifree all your gaming days. People were worried about GRAW2 not being as good as GRAW, but it was. People were worried that C&C3 wasn't gonna be as good as the earlier ones, but it was. People were worried that Medieval Total War wasn't gonna be as good as Rome proved to be, but it was. And I have more examples where this came from. Or maybe I'm too easily pleased?
(Also don't call me a noob because I've been on these forums a while I just don't post! :) )

I'll have to disagree with you about C&C 3, but... Other than that, you're quite right.

I think part of this sequel-fear is that we see the original games with such golden eyes that we don´t want them spoiled by travesties.
It´s like comics. Some of us started reading the classic X-Men, where Wolverine was new and interesting. But now he seems just a cheap gimmick.
But who are us to deny new Wolverine stories to the new generation ? Who are us to deny new Garrett stories to this generation of gamers ?
Sure, you can say "just buy the old ones", but will that work in ten years time ? With Vista problems ? Video card problems ? Old graphics and AI ?
Maybe we shouldn´t let nostalgia stop the creation of new stories. Sure there is the danger of creating another TDS but we are the consummers and we will aid them by giving suggestions, criticising, etc...

And that, my dear Gambit (talk about Xmen refs yo), is why the openDarkEngine is being made. ^_^

Bethesda's a decent dev. My only real gripe with TDS was the levels being cut up for XBox, and that the freeform City that everyone was clamoring for took time and effort away from the missions. Seeing as how Beth has at least one Thief guy over there, and the chopped mission issue not being an issue anymore, I see a Thief 4 from them being at least good and hopefully great.
I also invite everyone to read the opening post of this thread in the voice of The Comic Book Guy. Comedy gold. Some of you are ridiculous.
Cliftor on 19/9/2007 at 23:19
A Comic Book Guy voice makes ANYTHING hilarious. Just reread that sentence and try it out.
Anyway, I unconditionally agree: a sequel would be a good thing. In the end, a chance to be good is better than no chance.

Yeah, but sometimes no chance is far better than the possibility of desecrating something so holy and pure. :)
