Publishers are eying Thief again... - by shadowthief

No, I can emphatically state in all objectivity that Thief 3 was indeed a vile fragment of pure manure that fully deserved to find residence in the local trash heap. The Cradle was the only good level in there, and since Emil was responsible for that work of art, I therefore have faith in his abilities for this if it comes to pass. He also designed the Dark Brotherhood quests for Oblivion, and they are by far the most enjoyed and praised Oblivion quests as well.

Fine, if you see it that way. you're still wrong.

He was? I can't find any reference to this, and (
http://gillen.cream.org/wordpress_html/?page_id=618) this says that Jordan "null" Thomas did it.
Besides that, I only recall previews of Oblivion mentioning Pagliarulo working on the sneaking aspect, not the the Dark Brotherhood (hats off if he did do that though). The sneaking in Oblivion was pretty shit.

Actually, Null was a co-designer on the Shalebridge Cradle. But yeah - mostly responsible. And Emil DID write the entire DB quests for Oblivion. Look, you obviously enjoyed deadly Shadows. I'll respect that and refrain from calling you names and such. I didn't enjoy it as I thought it was too dumbed down and suffered too heavily from cross-consolization (is that a word?). But whatever. I think Bethesda can pull this off.

Only time will tell what will really happen.

I think it's great that Bethesda is thinking of reviving the thief series, and the fallout series for that matter. Who the hell says that these games have to fade into obscurity? Thief 1 and 2 were great. They managed to create a really cool world beset by thieves, religous fanatics, evil gods and the like. And best of all, you got to play a thief who inhabited this universe. Now when Thief 3 came along, sure it wasn't as great as the previous titles but nonetheless it was still a thief game, in look and feel despite what was said about it. So for a new thief came to come along, I think it's great. Sure, they will have to come up with a new plot line because of the other ending but who cares? Give us more of the city, flesh out the background more, yadda yadda yadda.
I really hope that this forum does not follow the path of the Fallout forum when they found out their beloved Fallout series was not going to be continued in 2D.

Yea, I think Bethesda would do a decent job, not great. They would add a 3rd person no doubt, which would be bad, but their games are well put together and I feel they wouldn't butcher the Thief Series. For those that think Thief should be left alone- there may be merit in that opinion, but don't fear change. What Thief 1 and 2 accomplished was great. Deadly Shadows was alright. Whatever is next will be good I'm sure. Different, but good.

Guys this is GREAT ! REALLY GREAT !
An incredible company like Bethesda and Emil !
We should be rejoicing !
Now we can have a Thief experience with awesome graphics and plot.
Take the imense area of Cyrodill and put an entire City there, with a forest for the pagans, lots of old ruins, Hammerite temples, Mage towers, catacombs, mansions...
You will be able to roam around in the City like TDS, but with a lot of better graphics and much bigger area. And if there is something you don´t like about it, then just mod it ! Bethesda games are very mod-friendly.
All in all I have hope to see the Thief franchise in contemporary gaming. Let´s not criticise it even BEFORE we know if it´s even not a rumor...

Yes, I was also under the impression that "null" had been the guy who was responsible for the cradle.
