I have only played Thief: Deadly Shadows (I can't get myself into the 2 previous games, but I watched the cutscenes =D) I love it...I think DS created such an amazing atmosphere and the Cradle was so scary I had to switch the game off like 5 times it was so unsettling.... It was so refreshing for me having to carefully avoid conflict instead of dive in and kill people like every other game, make for a much more intense game. I sooo hope they make a Thief 4, it needs to be done!!!! I only played thieves in Oblivion because I became such a big Thief fan....its just sad because Thief really isn't that well known by people...like no one I know of has even heard of Thief it needs to get more popular! Garret is such an awesome character with his wit and sexy gravelly voice and all that mystery around him....(big fangirl sigh lol) Bethesda has the talent to create a Thief game and they proved with Morrowind they can make a really deep, complex story, I just hope they don't go the Oblivion route and make it dumbed down and shallow like others have said.

As far as i know most , if not all , of the games we tend to like sold quite well .
Why then are we seeing regressions where there should be progress ?
Because, although Thief probably sold well based on what was expected of it, it probably sold about a 100th of the copies of "Generic Football Game 1998". It's all relative.

Good games take time and money, which producers don't want to spend. Thus, they churn out crappy games and spam ads and media, driving the public into a frenzy, then said public buys tons of crap without realizing it.

Regardless of how well Bethesda makes another Thief, if they put Viktoria on the cover with her chest popping out at the seams, I guarantee they'll make millions.

Yep. And then those guys'll stumble into ThiefGen and we'll have to cast them into the Maw of Chaos for our troubles.

Might as well give em a chance, they might make something that isn't half bad. ::shrugs::

Heh heh. Well, a third bad is still gonna be too much bad unless they absolutely nail the good. The bad should provide hours of extracurricular amusement, like the first two games. Seeing how TDS was just bad enough to create years of unrest, I'd sincerely hope another Thief will not bring more.
Change is good, depending on what's changed, and why. I think the original recipe allows a lot of growth and change, but the industry will not allow a game to be made like that. It broke too many stubborn industry rules.
Also, if they're going to do it, they're going to do it. I don't think we can stop them. Our numbers are few, easily less than twenty-thousand. They are thinking in tens and hundreds of thousands of units sold. They'd be out of their minds to think in millions of units sold, though, and they know that. That doesn't happen to most games, and when it does happen to a game, it's not entirely clear why, but they'll try to repeat the phenomenon for the money.

You know, new doesn't have to be bad. Bethesda certainly aren't the worst developer that Thief could fall into the hands of, especially if they make it before Take Two falls into the greasy grasp of EA. What are the odds of this happening, anyway?
