I'm not attacking you, Z. Really. I'm agreeing.:D History will keep repeating itself, and 99% of artists will be grieved for being who they are, and many of us will complain about how unfair it is. I'm saying it the way I am because I hate how greed and the gloating overlords (no, not all of them are like that) have guaranteed I will never succeed. Nothing I do will sell big enough to make a living off it. Being creative (regardless of the quality) is the most important thing for me. So my bitterness is coming out.
I'm sorry. I didn't feel attacked in any way. It's just a sensitive topic to me, on many levels, so when I start talking about it, I get agitated easily.

'Tis mutual. No hard feelings. Thanks.
And any insights you can legally give to what goes on behind the scenes is appreciated. I love that stuff. It increases my gratitude and awe for the industry.
Cheers!:thumb:

And we've also got to look at all the free-ware games out in the net. Anyone remember the days of shareware? Hell, I've still got a few old shareware games from the mid-90's somewhere on this mach... Personally, I think "publishers" are only necessary in the case of small, relatively unknown companies, otherwise they're superfluous, I mean, come on, who do gamers notice more? The publisher, or the DEVELOPERS?
Any moron can publish a game, but it takes a special love and talent to actually make a game, or even part of one.
Publishers should, as Fear Factory so eloquently puts it, "Open [their] eyes!"

unfortunately, if you take the informed minorty out of the equation, your average walmart game shopper (who stands for a large $-lump) will likely remember, if he remembers any name at all, the publisher. He's gonna remember the first splash screen with the trailer-voice guy going "it's in the game", not the second one. At "best" he's gonna be conflicted not knowing if the first or second splash screen is the one who made the game, but then after having seen the first one on a lot more stuff go with that.
edit: and I forgot to mention the decent amount of developers selling out to publishers and in-house dev teams publishers have, so for a bunch of the big games the publisher
is the developer, which will confuse average joe even more.

Yup. For instance, who developed the Tomb Raider games? Not Eidos!

Damn, you're right. Eidos had made me forget all about Core Design. I thought for sure it was Eidos. And I even used to play Rick Dangerous!
