Publishers are eying Thief again... - by shadowthief

I'm sure I've said it before, but T1 was the best game ever ever ever in the history of games and also the whole history of other things including the one with sliced bread in not just because it was incredibly smart, but also because it was fresh and new and not done before. T3 on the other hand was just treading the same old (by now) ground. T4 would have to be super awesome in a never seen before way to get me out of bed.
Tight, detailed missions are yummy. Free roaming sounds dull as dishwater to me. Oh well. That said; Bethsheba, or whatever they're called, do have a history of delivering games with editors attached which could just qualify as super awesome.

Everyone (including previous devs) keep talking about Thief in a large free roaming City environments, which sounds cool, but... I'm not sold on that. I love games like Oblivion and World of Warcraft, they're great fun. But Thief has always been in the mission/chapter format, with certain objectives to achieve to end a level. I worry that this free roaming GTA style of play just won't feel very thieflike to me.
You know, moving to a new house isn't always a bad thing. I personally would love a good Thief based Action-RPG with stats and interaction with NPCs.

A Prequel? Hmm, Maybe at the time at Cathedral Catastrophy?
You are a keeper, you need to stop spawning undead somehow. Make the Talismans (maybe steal something from Hand Brotherhood), lock the Cathedral, Hide the Talismans…
And… Maybe Gamall is the character to play? She is rather badass, but still… find the Transmutation Glyph, steal it. And maybe participate in making of the Last Glyph, to know how to destroy it…
And will it be interesting to play not the only one character, but for some of them? A keeper, then a hammerite, and maybe a crayman… :p

I wanna be a will-o'-the-wisp!
Or to play as Karras or Viktoria.... Oooo....:cheeky:

Maybe even have the local Watch perform raids on various houses nearby looking for the thief that stole some jerk's possessions last night and they hang the wrong people in full public display - real consequences for your actions.

What if you could have different gameplays by joining the different factions ?
The Keeper - This is where you stay with the classic Thief gameplay. Steal things, don´t get caught, don´t kill.
The Assassins - This is where you must kill a single person per mission in a very discret manner. You can kill other people too but the perfect way to complete the mission is to kill only that person, and even make it look like an accident or natural death.
Hammerite - This is where you get fellow hammerites following you. You now have a big hammer and mail armor. But the missions are packed with more powerful ennemies, so planning and stealth is still needed. Imagine medieval Rainbow Six or Swat.
Pagans - This is were you turn into some pagan stalking monster. You can crawl in walls and you must feed from unaware NPCs. Imagine Aliens from the AVP games.
ok, a bit farfetched, just some crazy ideas.

Holy crap - not farfetched at all. Imagine joining the hammerites in order to:
1) Either scope the place out from within - only to return at night as a thief.
2) Hunt down and kill other competing thieves.
LOL - I love the pagan monster creeping idea too. If wind direction were in the game, it would be cool to be able to "detect" scents and have to avoid having your own scent waif past guard dogs too.

Very well, don't forget the interactive crowd...and of course your hood is white instead of dark grey.
The only thing that's even more impressive than Assassin's Creed itself is the amount of premature praise it gets and those details that make it significantly cheaper than it could be, which are ignored by the fans.

For a thief? Or an assassin?:sly:
Hey, its Thief, you can be either. :ebil:
I just like the idea of lots in interactivity between ... things. Freedom is great.
