I just started playing Thief 2, and I'm on the second mission. :) I quickly figured out the bay door locking console. But there's one inconsistency that strikes me as very odd: What are all these fire-rated security doors for and why would they have *interior-only* deadbolts?
I know there are two universal access keys for Building A. But access to what? You need to already be inside each storeroom to use the keys. And the only way to get into a storeroom is via the outside bay doors. Perhaps they are "emergency doors", but I've never heard of emergency doors that you have to unlock before escaping. :wot:
But even this peculiarity is far from absolute: the patrolling guard and the nobleman in front of Kilgor Weapon Smithing can unlock and enter the orange doors with no problem. Yet Garret cannot do so even using the same key. Are these some new specially designed anti-Garret doors? :)
Thanks for indulging my curioisity!

I can tell you one thing for sure, they would be in big trouble with any OHS officers that come by!;) Could have a lawsuit on their hand if a certain thief breaks in, accidently starts a fire and then cannot escape.:D

Firstly they are NOT fire-doors. They are heavy "warehouse" doors.
Because you know what a firedoor is, and these resemble your idea of a fire door, does not make it so.
They are simply very heavy exterior warehouse type doors. No more no less.

I think he means the ones on the catwalk, but we both can be wrong.

The exterior doors and the interior doors in the building are merely reinforced to prevent Garrett and the like from breaking in.
Same as the on on the loading dock next to the main doors to the spaces. :)

Occupational health and safety regulations do not exist in the world of Thief. If you don't believe me, go play KOTP mission 1. :laff:
Or, maybe those doors are unlocked during business hours.
