I started this week.
So far it's been rather surprisingly decent. I spend most of my day chopping up stories to fit them into the page and trying to come up with headlines. One of my favourite ones was "New Tide formula washing in"- gotta love having the power to make the world a little more inane.
Headlines can be a pain in the ass, though, because you don't always have enough room for even a 5-letter word.
Getting dinner has been a pain in the ass, but I found a minimall nearby that should be a good source of foodings when I don't have anything to bring in.
I've gone home a little early most nights- 11:30-1am or so. We all roll in between 4:30 and 5 and pretty much dive in. I'm supposed to work Wed-Sun but I have tomorrow and July 4th off.
I will admit one thing- as much as working here is tolerable, I'm glad I only have three weeks left.
My dinner hour is over but I'll fill you guys in on the technical details later tonight.

I remember intermural competitions in high school for our Journalism class where one of the "events" was headline writing, and thinking, well first -wow, that's lame-, but when you actually have to do it, I remember you had to be pretty creative to get it within a certain letter count and it still sound natural. Don't remember any of my headlines, though.

It actually sounds kinda fun, minus the odd hours.

The hours are the best part! No traffic on the way home and I don't have to play dress up with bullshit clothes I hate.

It's maybe not that likely, but if you have to write up any shit involving dinosaurs, would you double check that they are, in fact, dinosaurs and not pterosaurs, crurotarsans, rhynchosaurs, pliosaurs or in fact any of the hundreds of other groups of extinct 'reptiles' that get called dinosaurs in the newspapers. Not that anyone except me and the other poor twats who share my profession cares. Oooh, and congrats on the position. My sisters a journalist, it sounds like fun. Stick it to the man! or whatever it is you get to do these days.

Duly noted, Viv ;)
I dunno if it'll happen in the next 3 weeks, but we do have Union Terminal (which I love, just by the way.) So maybe they'll have something in the paper, I dunno. They're busy with their America I AM exhibit (puts black history into the greater context of American history) right now.

YOU want to be a journalist?
june gloom on 21/6/2010 at 05:57
About as much as your parents wish you were born a girl, yes.
Koki on 21/6/2010 at 07:53
And you're also planning to work in video game industry?

Well someone has to show Jim Sterling how to do it right.
