The weather bureau modelling is already confirming that the '74 flood peaks will be well and truly exceeded.
I think I'm shored up pretty good. As long as the power holds out we should be fine for all our supplies and whatnot no matter how bad it gets.
My wife sure picked a good time to fly off to the States.

Has your ground ever heard of percolation?
Haven't you also been in a drought for years? Always a fucker when you go from not nearly enough to getting absolutely dumped on.
One of the sideffects of longterm drought is that the ground bakes to the extent that it is essentially cement, and then any water that does fall tends to run over the top of the ground rather than into it.
To be fair though, we could have incredibly well draining soils at this point and it wouldn't fucking matter. Two months of solid rain and walls of water are fairly extravagant.

Our house was right on the border of the '74 floods apparently, so this could get interesting.
The CBD was essentially evacuated around midday, was in there with the in-laws trying to shore up their business and the place was an eerie ghost town by around 3pm. We'll be back in tomorrow sandbagging, apparently you could see the water marks over 2m high on the walls after the last big one.

Ugh.... You guys take care over there.
And stay the hell out of the water if there is flooding!
I don't know what it is, but every spring, when the floods come to certain regions (like the south), it seems that some billie has to go venturing out into the middle of the water (to fetch the cooler or some silly thing...wouldn't want the Budweiser to float away) and either gets swept off (Darwin in action) or has to be rescued by the authorities (Divine Intervention in action) who probably have better things to be doing because there's a big fucking flood going on.

I know the first and guessed the second, I was just joshing :) Gallows humor, if you like.
Do your houses tend to have basements? We don't in California, but they're more common in other states, and obviously make a difference as far as drying out after a flood.
