Question about cut scenes in Thief Gold (FAQ doesn't seem to address this) - by McQ

Hi, all.
I was just wondering about this, and I did consult the FAQ before posting this, so I aplogize if I tick anyone off. This has no doubt been asked before.
My cut scenes in Theif Gold aren't playing. Don't get me wrong, the first few cut scenes did play, but now when I finish a level they are immediately skipped.
The FAQ says to reinstall the codecs, but when I go onto the Theif CD itself and play the AVI files, they play in Windows Media Player just fine, with visuals and sound, perfectly.
Does this mean I still have to reinstall the codecs if the videos play fine? I wouldn't think so. It seems like the game is just skipping them for some reason.
Any help would be much appreciated. I've seen the cut scenes up to the current level I'm on (just lost his eye to Constantine) but I've had to go onto the CD to watch them.
Thanks in advance.

I do believe that the movies are just .avi files. They play without the codecs! The codecs are what makes them work in the midst of the game.
If they are corrupted then, yes install them. It takes what, 1 minute?
For some reason, every time this happens to me, I just reboot and it works again. I am using Windows98 though. That probably helps.

It happens to me sometimes when I play Thief 1 (not Gold) and Thief 2. Strange.

Is that true? I was under the impression that codecs were indeed required to play the movies themselves, and that's what I'm saying, the movies play fine when I find them on the CD and double click them. They open up in windows media player just fine and I can watch them all, but when I finish a level in Theif Gold it just skips to the next 'objectives' window before the next level starts, bypassing all the movies entirely.
You're saying that the codecs need to be reinstalled for the game to work with them? Am I correct in thinking that?
My understanding was that codecs were what was required to watch the movies with or without a game, and thus, if I can watch the movies just fine off the CD, the codecs are fine. Am I wrong in thinking that?

An AVI file will play with Media Player, the ATI File Player etc. Any player that supports AVI will play them.
Reload the codec off your CD, just find the Iv5 Exe on the disc and run it.

Wasn't there an issue about re-registering the codec? I know GarrettLoader has a tool that specifically does that.

Just once, or every time I play?

Try just once. It should take. If not then copy it to the desktop so it's handy.
