Hi, all.
I'm considering doing a Thief fanfic, set about a year and a half after Thief III. Garret is 'retired' but is soon lured out of his new life when the young girl who tried to pick his pocket is killed.
The possible villains I have chosen would be the Necromancers, possibly aligned with rogue Mages.
My question is does anyone know of any web sites with good information on the Mages and especially the Necromancers that I could use so I don't contradict any game canon? I like to do my research but any googling I do on necromancers leads to many other different, non thief, versions of that same name.
Any help is much appreciated.
All the best

Create fan missions.

Everything about Necromancers in the "Thief Universe" is in the mission Life of the Party. Likewise, everything you need to know about the Elementalists would be contained within the Thief Gold only missions of The Lost City and The Mages Towers. Trying to search the web for info on these topics is likely to teach you a great deal 'bout Guild Wars, not Thief. :)
And to clarify, some of us folks can get facetious about people misspelling Garrett. People also generally prefer fan missions to fan fictions.

Sorry for the misspelling of his name. I'm sure fan missions would be preferable to fan fictions. Who wouldn't want missions over fictions? Unfortunately, I have no ability in that regard, nor the time to learn. Writing is what I do, and since it's primarily for my enjoyment anyway... ;)
I did exerience that every phenomenon you were discussing, getting info on other games when searching the net, which is why I asked here.
If that's all there is, then I'd say I have a lot of leeway to get started,
Many thanks.

Well, there's one. ;)
I also noticed a mention of the Necromancer's in Dark Shadows. You can steal the Necromancers wand as a favor for the Hammers. It's one of the side missions. I guess that's the extent of the Necromancer's appearances in Thief. At least I know they're still around in Dark Shadows, and plaguing the Hammers with problems (raising the undead in Ironwood Cemetary).
