Que? How so?
Generally speaking, I always sign-off emails, posts, letters, and so on, and virtually always in the same manner. Especially when I don't have an auto-signature set. Is this another TTLG cultural norm I'm violating?
Unless it's actually somehow a problem, I'm going to continue signing off as such. It's just what I do, and it's one way to make myself more recognizable on the internet, especially when I'm on a forum where I don't use my normal screen name.
And, yes, I have sometimes been known as Nathan "Blessed Be" Rockwood by forum-going compatriots, and I believe one of the optional rulesets I wrote for the Serenity RPG was labeled by a the friend who hosted it as "(X Number) Pages of Blessed Be Goodness," so I don't mind standing out in that way :-)
Blessed be,
~Nathan

Look around you. How many other people do you see displaying signatures or other such sign-offs? It's pretty rare. A forum post is not an email or a letter. It's part of a conversation. Wouldn't it be odd if you were talking to someone and you introduced yourself every time you finished a statement?
TTLG has always been very minimalistic, focusing on the content of people's posts and avoiding the more ego-centric features many forums offer. That's why you see no avatars and only a minimum of information given about users under their name, and rarely, if any, signature items.

Fair enough; I've just grown used to forums where most people do use such things. I've had to myself particularly, since I'm frequently answering questions or providing explanations from an official standpoint, and it's easier to make a habit of it than it is to remember to introduce myself and explain my credentials every time a new gamer logs on to the forums for the first time with a question. Which gets REALLY old on my end, when I have to retype the same paragraph nearly constantly :p
But, as I said, I don't want to p.o. anyone; I'll try and remember not to type it out on posts here, but I hope folks can bear with me while I get used to it.

Search IDs are not persistent.

I thought of the New Orleans weekly What-to-do-this-week-in-NO mag also called Gambit.
I did lapse into the X-Men thinking straight away as I am a fan of that series.
Just a general comment - I noticed from a lot of the user names registered that most people have gone for a person or place from the Thief games. I went for an object instead after it was the last thing I saw before joining these forums (I joined just after a little run around Precious Cargo).
p.s. Hi Nathan, welcome!

Have we ever figured out why he does that?!
