If you're gonna insult someone, then man up and do it in their language. Stop hiding behind barriers, you Cyrillic alphabet typing pussy.
Yeah, those same screenshots were posted last night (
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/05/04/behold-some-fresh-rage-images/) on RPS.
(
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/images/10/may/rage2.jpg) This one in particular raises concern. Aside from post-apocalyptic hot pants in the centre there, everything looks disgusting. Awful low res textures on environmental features and objects, like the vending machine, the no parking sign, the graffiti on the wall. That isn't a post-processing DoF effect either, those are just revolting textures.
Gunsmoke pointed out to me that Id Software are known for their historically quality texture work and he's right, they pioneered texturing with fricking Doom.
These are like target rendered bullshots of the 360 build. Hopefully they come through on Carmack's promise of the PC version getting uncompressed textures.

Once again (Doom3), almost all look not convincing, mediocre at best.

Mwah graphics look good to me. Doom 3 was shit but this like it's going to be a fun mix of ET and Borderlands. And I like Borderlands. A lot. If they can put that much detail in the huge fluid environments they claim to be working it's on top of everything. I mean it are the tech-wizards of the industry they will deliver a solid engine at least.

previews say it looks amazing - on XBOX !!!! so no guessing how the PC will end up looking :)
other than that I never expected this to be an RPG, like Willits says in all previews: it's about the growth of your arsenal. My best guess: Metro2033-like linearity with small hubs that just look enormous but a very atmospheric background for a tight story. Metro failed on a few levels and the shooting was bad (not that I don't like clumsy gunhandling but it was worse) so id clearly has the advantage with decades of FPS experience. I'm cautiously optimistic.

It's id. They make shooters for breakfast. They're steadfastly oldschool in their ways, but the result is always playable. They're still among the best in the field when it comes to graphics. I'm more than cautiously optimistic.
That megatexture feature's blown the doors right off, and the exteriors show it. I know they're going for platform parity, but if Carmack says the PC version's going to feature uncompressed textures, I'll believe him. (I just can't find the quote where he did say it.)
