ATI released 2 drivers today with the second driver fixing most of the Texture load behaviors... Also, folks have figured out how to enable the console so FOV changes (etc) can be applied. So it's not a pure nightmare... but it sure is the worst product launch for an id Software title on the PC... Sign of the times?
(...or Carmack got too carried-away fooling with "low-level hardware access" on the consoles then woke at the last minute to realize he needed to release the PC version too... ??? Eg. Mad scientist syndrome...)

10-12 hours of gameplay.
I'll be curious to hear how long real people take to play it. For starters, I'm pretty sure the difference between the low and the high end would be more than 20%! I believe I heard someone talking up the amount of content and gameplay in Rage as being one of the reasons why it's taken as long as this to release. Also, they will have dropped the ball if you can't waste hours just driving around for the hell of it, or taking part in races.

Try kissing my ass and stop being a douchebag for once, people will like you better.
Sorry my brain doesn't function as good as yours. I made a mistake and fixed it. Didn't need you to make a comment.
@nbohr1more
I doubt the Carmack scenario. You have to consider the publisher, Bethesda Softworks. The "sign of the times" seems more like it.

I've installed the new drivers and the texture pop in is only at my extreme periphery and it is very very quick. I dont notice it unless i'm looking for it, It's nothing to complain about. With all the graphical glitches gone I'm really getting into it. So far it is even more reminiscent of Borderlands than I thought it would be. A real unfair comparison since Rage was in development before Borderlands was ever announced. But its eerily similar. Job boards instead of bounty boards. The color scheme is very much the same. Still, there is a very different character to this game.
I keep forgetting that I don't need to get my stats up to go in and rampage on a place. I just need to have the right firepower. So when somebody talks about how terrible a place is and how doomed I'm sure to be I'm always hesitating wondering if my skills are high enough or something (been playing too much New Vegas), then I realize that this is an ID shooter, all I need is bullets.... and then awesome ensues.
Also. a nice touch is being able to have the gamepad enabled while still being able to use kb + m. It changes the on screen prompts to match the controller, but they dont' turn the mouse off like most other games I've played. So I use the controller for driving and the kb + m for shooting. Its a fun game. Worthy of the hype.

I get the feeling he absurdly took the only other post-apocalyptic first-person games he knew for a comparison with Rage, and this seems to drive his whole review.

Imagine Borderlands with the fun stripped out, or Fallout without actual choice, characters, or consequences.
What? Are we talking about the same iD shooter there?
Also, Ben Kuchera.
