FOR DRAMA. God knows this place needs more of it

Listen, guys. lost_soul can't and won't answer the questions you want him to because he's a passive-aggressive wallflower suffering from Asperger's. If he actually had half a brain he'd think through what he wanted to post before he posted it. I don't think he can help himself - not because he's a dipshit, though he certainly can be one, but because he literally has no other way to converse with people. This is my theory.
Leave him alone and let him wilt and moulder in the dark dank of his ignorance. If he actually knew how to post a rational answer to any of your questions, he would have by now. I don't think he can, perhaps because he's blindsided by his own lack of self-awareness, or something worse.
Let it go. Let it be. Maybe someday he'll come round.
Oh, also I'm posting this from my PS3 in the middle of bouts of Ico and SotC. NO ALWAYS ON INTERNET DRM HERE, YOU PC SHITWIPES HAHAHAHA! B-)
Well actually my PC's CPU fan went and killed itself so I'm stuck PC-less this weekend :-/

care to elaborate or is that just a reaction to the DLC thingy ?
which is pretty common nowadays, see DXHR and every other release since .... a few years.
see previous page
Quake 1 was best game of Id software.Id cant do games. They are good programmers, not an artists
Dead Space is Doom 3,but developed by a people with good imagination
actually,i think that DLC is a good thing if its not about a "clothes" and weapons
DXHR DLC adding one level and upcoming DLC adding entire new chapter to the game

Reeeally? I'm not disagreeing with your point, but Dead Space is a bad example. It has about as much (lack of) imagination and originality as Doom 3, just in a different genre. And I enjoyed both games, but I don't think they warrant comparison.

Oh, I don't know, I felt Dead Space at least tackled its particular genre with a fairly unique take. Most sci-horror games of that particular type tend to ape Aliens to a T, right down to the insect-like creatures. Dead Space's necromorphs are decidedly space zombies, but with plenty more body horror (and there's a bit of the ol' SS2 biomass thing going on.) But more to the point, the horror's origins step away from the norm of "biological monstrosity caused by humans" and "Satan." Satan we're familiar with. The pentagrams, the horns, the fire and brimstone, been there, done that, saw Event Horizon. This is something rather more Lovecraftian- with a twist, for once!- than merely Satanic, and all the more alien for it. Not to mention the added wrinkle of the religious element- Unitology.
Sure, there's no new ideas in it, but honestly there's no new ideas at all ever. That's why we have TVTropes. What makes it unique is that it's a perfect blend of elements: body horror, religious horror, Lovecraftian horror, psychological horror- it's like they took a bunch of horror media- Aliens, Event Horizon, System Shock 2, Lovecraftian concepts (while deftly avoiding just aping Lovecraft himself, which I hate hate hate,) the list goes on- and just threw them in a blender and poured what came out of it into a game box. Dead Space- at least the first game- is System Shock 2 meets Doom 3 meets Silent Hill 2 in a nutshell.

Don't worry, an "on-line pass system" for the PS3 is coming soon. From there, they will eventually require game activations too. I bet we'll see always-on connections mandatory in a decade.

and @Dethtoll: I've answered your question before. By purchasing used, I deprive the developers of revenue. That is my goal and I still get to play their game. By releasing a game to the public, I have a right to play it regardless of where I buy it.
OTOH, I have always supported id software. Even when I knew a lot of people did not pay for Doom 3, I went to the store and bought it NEW. This was because id software was the only developer who appeared to care about its fans. I can play classic Doom on my mp3 player after all.

When Carmack releases the source code for Id Tech 5 in ~7-10 years time or whenever, you'd BETTER NOT download it, nor play any source ports derived from it. By your own logic, you wouldn't have earned the right to do so by not supporting Id in the immediate future and buying the game new.

l_s: Clearly, recognising sarcasm and avoiding irony isn't your strong suit either.
lost_soul on 8/10/2011 at 16:46
@EvaUnit02, I can just buy a new copy of RAGE when that happens.
Also, if it wasn't for id software, I wouldn't have my current favorite on-line game (Urban Terror)... nor would I have The Dark Mod... nor would I have spent dozens of hours playing Tremulous. I also wouldn't still be able to play Quakeworld/Q2CTF on any machine I want (even a netbook).
These people have done a lot for the PC gaming community.
