You know, sometimes I wonder why I'm so hostile to people who complain endlessly about PC gaming not being what it once was. Then I read posts like yours and I understand all over again.

Who is to blame for the current gaming situation? Is it the "pirates" who never pay for PC games? Is it the publishers with their never-ending fetish for exercising more control over the user? Is it me for buying 90% of my games used? Perhaps we all are to blame just a bit. How could the situation be rectified?
It's that that consoles are cheap, easy to set up and use, extremely user friendly, and great to develop and optimize for.

Nope. The Carmack "clusterfuck" article (or Reddit Q&A, I'm not certain) pre-dates the patch.
If by the clusterfuck article you mean when the game was getting spat on because of graphical problems and whatnot, then duh of course it's before the patch. I was referring to Volitions Advocate's post on the previous page: "patch released. works flawlessly now."
@lost_soul:
Are you seriously asking why their focus is on console? Shouldn't that be fairly obvious these days? It's because , as catbarf pointed out, they are easier to use for one thing, and as a result of that (not entirely, but partly) people game on consoles more than they do PCs. In other words, the console market is bigger than the PC market. And don't say you knew that already, because if you did you wouldn't have asked. Not only that, think about it. If you're a publisher and you see that the market is bigger for consoles, wouldn't you want to focus on consoles? Of course you would. After all, it is a business and they're trying to make money.
Also, about the "who's to blame" thing:
It's the big publishers, and it's the loads of console gamers. At least, that's how I see it. The focus on consoles isn't such a bad deal, as long as the developers are able to do a good port of their game. Unfortunately, seems like more often than not the ports are made poorly, and that can be because (as I see it, and I could be wrong) they're doing it along with the development of the console versions so they don't have the time to make it better or care to. The exception to that is DXHR, at least from what I've read/heard about that game. Though, if we're honest, we should be happy there's a PC version at all if we don't want/can't get the console version.

@ sNeaksie
yeah, that's the patch I meant. I didn't post a link because steam just automatically updated it for me. Sorry if that caused confusion.

If any of you shitlords have a problem with tearing in RAGE, well this is from the official forums:
Quote:
turns out the nvidia driver had a a Rage profile with Vsync set to "Force off" by default. You may not see the profile until you uncheck "Show only programs found on this computer", then you can just set it to use the global setting or whatever you desire.
that fixed it for Eva

if anybody is still wondering about the game length. Steam has me clocked in at 19 hours thus far. I"m sure 2 - 3 of that was just sitting idle, but it's a lot more than the 10 hours some sites were reporting. I've done a bit of exploring, but not a ton. I did mostly the main quests in the first hub area and maybe 3 or 4 sidequests. I know I didn't see every place there. Right now i'm about 4 missions in the main campaign into the 2nd hub area. I'm sure there are more hubs ahead. Lots of game here.
mothra on 12/10/2011 at 12:14
I think I did everything there is in hub one. every race, every sewer, every jobboard-,side- and mainmission, played a few minigames and found a handful desert spores. Pimped all my cars fully and it took me 8-9 hours. didn't do all in hub2 on my first playthrough but it should be of equal size.
Did anyone try out the coop missions ? How long are those ?
can you set difficulty in coop ?
because insane is the only way to go :cheeky:

RE: Doom 3. I'm pretty sure they patched in some sort of Carmack voodoo which decompresses sound assets from OGGs. It may've been an exclusive feature for Creative X-Fi and Audigy owners though, I'm not sure.
Unless I'm misunderstanding you, that voodoo magic is a vorbis decoder. And that accomplishes absolutely nothing unless you plan to play around with audio in an editor to minimize quality loss. It is always best to just go back to the original lossless files, tweak them further if deemed appropriate and re-compress them at lower compression settings. Doom 3's sound quality is quite bad, but the music quality is just absolute shit. Quake 3 dates back to 1999 and its OST's sound quality puts Doom 3's to shame.
