It's not the complexity of the editor that's the roadblock. The main limitation they were talking about with Rage was that baking megatextures would take an entire rendering farm of like 10 computers sharing processing power over the period of a few nights just to texture your objects and map. They didn't expect many people at home had enough processing power to even open the megatextures in an editing program, much less bake them in any time under a year. If I did it, I'd consider actually buying a night's use of a computer network at a local university ... you just have to do it once.

Ah! I missed that. Yeah, that makes sense, something like that would constitute itself as a considerable new hurdle for most modders.

Putting out modding tools is a considerable effort, and for whatever reasons, some companies do and some companies don't, but, in a non-critical way, I find it unlikely that Rage's level editor might be of
such a degree of complexity that it would be out of the grasp of ordinary modders, especially since Carmack had only just mentioned in one of the earlier vids that a considerable advantage of their new virtual texturing system was making it a lot easier for their level builders to paint gamespaces.
Wow, I'm out of breath just reading the above sentence. Run-on much? ;)

Heh, yeah, that probably needed a fullstop in there. Or an intermission.

I dunno, I think this looks good (especially the facial animation at the end), but with Fallout 3, Stalker: CoP, Borderlands and Rage out I fear I might start suffering from post-apocalyptic overload.

I was really excited about this game up until I saw that last trailer and saw the shootout footage. id doesn't seem to give a damn about ballistics or adding any weight to the guns. It looks like Doom 3 in that sense, the sub machine gun in Doom 3 for example felt like it might as well have been shooting flowers. Something about it feels so detached. I see this game having the same issue...

The guns did look weak, but - holy shit a giant!!!
