Yep, it's a great series. The three of them also are great in the Tudor, Victorian and Edwardian farm series, and the steam locomotive series. I can't find the earlier Tales from the Green Valley on any streaming service so I'm guessing it was only on VHS or DVD. But I digress.

After visiting the local RSPB nature reserve on Saturday, I popped into Conwy Castle for the first time since I was a child. After more than 700 years, it is still largely intact.
It is strikingly well integrated into its environment. Of course, castles were situated in places precisely because the location bestowed various advantages, nevertheless this required some serious engineering.

These walls are in their eighth century of life and are still solid as a rock. The thickness is a factor, but they also employed the old Roman technique of using seawater in the mortar, which gives it incredible strength.

In case of earthquakes, avoid castles.
Just saying.
Even a small 5.0 Richter scale can be devastating on solid non flexible structures.

An earthquake can happen anywhere. However, the vast majority of earthquakes occur at the boundaries between tectonic plates.

You're right I meant Chris Twat.
The pics you posted don't do the house justice. Of course it's not on the same level as a Frank Lloyd Wright house but it's very much a representation of styles of interesting 1950's Southern California architecture. Of course without protections people are free to destroy whatever they can purchase but the outrage is because of the loss of the architecture that was a part of studies and also it a part of the community fabric. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

I know there are bigger problems in the world but as someone who loves midcentury modern/modernist architecture I am so incensed that this idiot had this beautiful house razed, likely to build just another gaudy soulless mcmansion :tsktsk: ugh.

That's exactly what him and his wife are building. The architect building their new house is known for building McMansions. They sold their big expensive mansion and now live across the street from their in-laws: The Schwarzenegger's.
