I don't think it's in any way - any way - necessary to dumb a game down [...] to reach a huge audience.
If you want "everyone" to "get it", it can't be very complex.

For example, the most dumbed-down sport in the world is also the most popular.

I will readily acknowledge that the developers of Invisible War and Deadly Shadows took huge risks by making significant changes to games that were both supposed to be
sequels. But will Warren acknowledge that this was exceptionally stupid and hubristic of them?
Ion Storm had two of the most-beloved properties in the game industry, and handed them to newbie design teams that thought they could do better instead of just following what was already there.
You're a moldy block of cheese, you know that? This is getting old :bored:
There's nothing newbie about either teams. WSpector here is obviously still being sneaky about the whole issue of IW and T3 falling short of their lofty goal of SOMETHING that only exists in the world of good intentions. Still, it's done. What happened happened, and couldn't have happened any other way. There's no "if only" or "could've been." This is what you get under the ISA development environment at that time, and given the resources available to them.

Yeah, wait a minute, TTLG has always had that Pirate's Den feel to it. Certainly wouldn't be the same without ZylonBane.

Because Warren is merely a chip off that block.

which is why it's a little funny you made it here
I don't know if it changes anything, but I meant that in a very good way. I happen to think Lord British is an excellent game designer. Perhaps all these new (younger?) fans haven't heard of this guy.

Oh wait, players might fall off the ladder and hurt themselves! Better that the entire game takes place on a two-dimensional plane made of Nerf so nobody gets hurt.

No, it's dumbed-down to just the right level. If you go too far in either direction, you lose the other end of the bell curve.

Itt we struggle with the fact that simple and simplistic are not the same thing.
