What's that fuss about the ladders ? I never ever ever had a single problem with them, be it TDP, TG, T2 or SS2 (though I experienced from time to time jumping-off-rope-arrow bugs). Are you sure it's not computer related ?

It's kind of like real life that way.
So why does your character never sprain his ankle when jumping of 3 feet heights or remain unhurt when you run into a wall in a FPS? A lot of real life actions have to be simplified for the game to be fun and ladder-climbing has been an exception to that rule for far too long.

Why? Because he's AWESOME.
He's just not infinitely awesome.

I think some of this falls under suspension of disbelief, inherent to the nature of video games.

yeah, Garrett has to be one hell of an acrobat, IMO. Think about it, he can take a 35 foot fall with minimal damage, which is amazing in my book. of course, he could also attribute that with being almost wafer thin. that man needs more protien in his diet... :laff:

A good example is the replacement of rope arrows with wall climbing gloves. Who was it who said, "Hey, no one likes rope arrows anymore, they're old hat. Let's replace them with wall climbing gloves! They're a lot more Thiefy." I think it's safe to say that only a very small portion of the Thief community, almost certainly made up entirely of those who did not play the original Thief or Thief II or did not do so before playing Deadly Shadows, thinks that replacing rope arrows with wall climbing gloves was a good design decision. Do you think it was?
You Deadly Shadows fanboys can splutter indignantly about how Deadly Shadows had ever so much more vision than the Looking Glass games and how ungrateful we are about all those new "features" until you are blue in the face (just like the Ion Storm game's shadows), but it will not suffice to assuage the doubts of the majority of real Thief fanatics.
Cutting ropearrows is one of the more painful decisions we had to make. Trust me, no one on the team wanted to cut them. It was cut due to technical limitations in the engine. We just couldn't get them working with the physics and looking good in a timely fashion, so we were left with little choice. The same thing happened with swimmable water.

It is with a heavy heart that I say that a true Thief title would have pushed it's time limits way beyond normal demands. How? The tech they presented showed it's worth as needed. What exactly, I wonder sometimes, was the point of making this game? It would seem that the original fans who would have warranted such a title certainly weren't pleased. Also, what is the point, then, in introducing many new people to the last of an ancient series? Finally, why did the same damn thing happen to Might and Magic???

Funny thing that. There are some sections of Thief 2 where I always seem to have a broken script problem no matter what I try. The part in the second mission where the Hammerite and the sword manufacturer are talking has only work once for me as I recall. In another mission (either casing or the one after it) there is a hammerite and a servant (the regular kind, not the mechanist kind) who are supposed to be having a conversation in one of the store rooms. They have never started the conversation in any of the times I've played which includes about 2-3 different computers.
As for ladders, the one near the drunken guard in Life of the Party seems to always give me some grief as I can never simply walk off of it, I have to jump which alerts him.

Yet at the same time someone "hacked in" third person. There's those stupid climbing gloves and other features that don't belong. I still don't get it. Dark Engine style rope arrows and water seems almost like a trivial addition.
