Taffey, m'dude, there's no need to post the same thing twice. You can always edit your posts. :)

Indeed Taffey, please edit posts instead of duplicating them to add info. You can just delete the first one or I'll be happy to do it for you if you wish.

I'm sorry for the double post y'all. I'm new to ttlg forums and I still haven't figured out how everything is done around here.

No worries, we just try to keep things uncluttered whenever possible. :D

It is definitely clear from my own perspective that Thief 1 missions have risen in score over time especially once I got comfortable with combating undead and beast. Strangely enough, these enemies brought a much needed variety to the levels that is severely lacking in Thief 2. Not even TDS has this issue as you often jumped between enemy types on a regular basis (guards, pagans, beasts, hammers, keepers, kurschok, undead) lots variation in your opponents who each vary in how to handle your tactically approach.
In Thief 2, from Eavesdropping on, you rarely go a mission without having to deal with mechanists, turrets, and/or robots as a major factor of the mission. I think Blackmail is the closest to having limited confrontation with mechanists and their gear. Honestly, I think one of the reasons LotP is so highly rated is because you get to spend a good chunk of the mission engaging in navigation and exploration with mostly guards/civies as opponents. Even Angelwatch is not too overwrought with confronting mechanists due to the navigational aspects of the place.

Walrus, I pretty much agree with all of your criticisms of Thief 2. Thankfully the level skip exists for Casing...
If you asked me 15 years ago what my favorite Thief game was it would've been Thief 2 hands down. Heck, it might not be an exaggeration that most of the forum denizens felt that way at the time. I could be proven wrong, but it seemed to be the case at the time.
I grew to appreciate Thief 1 / Gold more and it took the top slot eventually. Now it seems that over time 1 / Gold has improved in reception.

Yes it does seem it has. Very surprised by these responses in that regard. Ever since I've gotten into the series it has been Thief 2 that has been the clear winner. I'm also very happy to see that DS seems to be finally getting the recognition it so rightfully deserves. Well, maybe not on this forum from what I can tell, but elsewhere.

Don't get the wrong idea about Deadly Shadows - most fans have played it and like it. It's flaws have certainly been exhaustively discussed at length here, but the fans are naturally going to be the harshest critics. It's still often recommended to fans of the first two.
Now go looking for fan's of 2014's entry round here and you might run into some difficulty :p
But they certainly exist too.

if thief 3 had thief 2 movement it would be a way better game
