Are y'all particularly set on getting original disc, case, manual, etc? EBGames still sells the Gold download, if you just want to play...

There are a number of issues with downloading software, at least downloading Thief.

Has that been tested and proven?
I know about Direct2Drive, but what about the standard Eidos download?

That is ebays way of automatically upping your bid so you only pay a bit more that the next person in order to win.
Ah, so it bids up to your max that you put in. Yer, I see :)

I guess I was lucky, got mine from Canada a year ago for under 10 USD.

Yes. :P I downloaded/bought the standard Eidos Thief Gold, and I cannot save it, cannot back it up, cannot open the CRFs, nor load fan missions in it. It runs fine. Ive had no problem just playing it, but its like its been altered so its not the actual game anymore. To prevent pirating, I suppose, but ugh. Never again.
So, yeah, I'm set on an actual Cd version now. Not to mention, I prefer to be able to peel games out when I don't want to play them, and return them when I do, not be forced to have it sit on my HD when I haven't touched it in more than six months because I don't want to lose it. :P

That would be ideal. Where'd you find it? I've looked at the local EBGames, and they had no copies of Thief whatsoever, even TDS. Of course I don't have the means to return to ask them to get it in either or go looking at other locations. It was sort of a random thing as I stumbled across them while Christmas shopping.

I bought a copy of Thief Gold (to supplement the TDP I already have) last month from this guy:
(
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/GREAT-BROOK-MULTIMEDIA_PC-GAMES_) http://stores.ebay.co.uk/GREAT-BROOK-MULTIMEDIA_PC-GAMES_
Good service as I'm in the UK as well, but looking at the shop policies he ships worldwide, although I don't know whether the rates would make that economical or not. As of right now he has 3 copies for sale (1 jewel case, which is what I bought, 1 dvd case, 1 boxed). It's Buy It Now so no chance of being outbid, just have to be quick before everyone else buys :)
Works fine for me in XP, even using my 7900GT and 93.71 drivers.

Thanks Crusader, just what ive been looking for, my offer for the jewel case version was accepted! (I didnt see much point in buying the boxed version cause i just end up throwing them in the bin). That means i now got all 4 versions of thief! yay!

I just got reintroduced to the reason I hate Ebay.
Bid on a copy of Thief Gold. . .outbid someone three times from 1.24 to 6.50us and there it sat all week. . .until the very last few moments of the auction then someone jerked the price up to 14 and by the time I woke up, the auction was closed.
-sigh- Back to the search I guess.

Is it frustrating, most definitely. Would I do it if I wanted the item and came on one closing? Probably. As you say its the system of the auctions. But yeah, i'm not going to sit there and refresh every few minutes either.
You could fight fire with fire. A couple of years ago, I searched on ebay for 'snipe', and found software that would snipe for you. I didn't get it, though. Others probably did. Now some sites do it for you. Just now I did a search. Some sites charge from the first snipe. I found one that seems to be free.
