Or, 'Nevemore,' quoth the.... nevermind.
(
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-10-12-activision-shrinks-singularity-dev-raven) Eurogamer news article.
From the studio that gave us Heretic and Hexen and Jedi Knight 2, to a studio dedicated to making downloadable games. They've been downsized after Singularity failed to set the charts on fire.
Who by? Activision, of course. It's sad, I can see the financial realities of the decision, but this is pretty much a butchering of one the most well-recognised faces of the few surviving oldschool PC devs. They might have been stuck in a rut of making by-the-numbers shooters for a while, but every now and then they were able to pull off some real magic.
I don't know what they're feeling right now, having to suffer this ignominy, but I wish them and the people who were axed the best of luck.

A bit like Ritual being absorbed by their MumboJumbo friends.

Good riddance. They were really good in times of Doom, but froze in time after that.

Should have happened after Jedi Knight 2.

While I'm always sad to see this kind of news, I agree with the sentiment here. Raven hadn't done anything to impress me in years!
Not neccessarily good riddance - but completely unsurprising.
Edit: Though looking at the video on the link, I see that Raven beat me to the concept that I've been planning for months as a Half Life 2 mod. Gargh.

Did Raven make Return to Castle Wolfenstein? That was a good game
Brian The Dog on 12/10/2010 at 14:25
Edit - Wiki says they didn't, they made Soldier of Fortune, which I got confused with. RtCW was developed by Gray Matter.

Ugh. Honestly, I respect your opinions but kindly fuck off :p I LOVE RAVEN. Always have, always will. They have made some of my most treasured games, and I am proud to say that I even bought doubles on Xbox just to support them.
And Vernon and Brian The Dog...you are both funny. Raven developed Wolfenstein. The 2009 game. It was one of the best titles to come out that year, and loved by even those that traditionally passed on Raven's titles.

Too bad... Quake 4 and SOF were great! It is just another one of the few good game companies left dissolving into casual downloadable games.
TDM is really the only reason to get a nice gaming rig these days. I'm still hoping that RAGE will restore id to where they were in 1999.
Ten years ago, we had so many great FPS games to play. Everything started going down hill around 2003 or so.
