No, not really. Pretty much any other PC game coming out will be available on a console too... a console that costs half the price of the gaming PC. Little or no PC-tailored games=no reason to buy a new gaming PC.
It isn't 1998 anymore. We don't have games shipping with editing tools, where the community starts building hundreds of custom maps. That isn't a given anymore, it is an exception to the rule.
That rule is to produce PC versions of a console game that can't easily be edited.

Go play Stalker you douchemobile. Or hell, Fallout 3- it may be on console too but it's fucking crazy editable. Shame you'll never play either though since you're on Linux.
Anyway. Shame to see Raven go. Quake 4 was solid fun- a lot more so than Doom 3 ever was.

It is too bad Quake 4 Fortress died. That would have been great fun! I guess there are so many TF clones around though and many players have moved on.

Sad day - Hexen is one of my all-time faves.

Was still secretly hoping they'd one day do a Doom 3/Quake 4-style update to Heretic/Hexen. Sad news indeed! :(
Xenith on 12/10/2010 at 17:55
there hasn't been a good game that came out since solitaire on the windows platform
And fucking hell, I really like Raven's old stuff. Must have played Hexen and Heretic so many times.

TDM is really the only reason to get a nice gaming rig these days. I'm still hoping that RAGE will restore id to where they were in 1999.
Ten years ago, we had so many great FPS games to play. Everything started going down hill around 2003 or so.
haha thanks you kicked off my morning with a hearty laff

+1 to the sentiments that 242 and Jason can fuck off. Raven have continuously made solid games. RIP to one of the PC gaming old guard. I really enjoyed Quake 4 and Wolfenstein 2009. I look forward to getting Singularity when it hits the bargain bins, based solely on those last two games. Their console Marvel superhero beat-em-ups are highly regarded too, I've yet to play any of them though.

This * infinity. There's Bohemia's games like ArmA 2. PC exclusive, highly editable engine, the developer fully backs the community.
Also Dragon Age from Bioware/EA released in Nov 2009, built for PC first and then ported to console. They released the full editing suite which is very powerful. Highly moddable game engine.
Fallout: New Vegas has been confirmed to ship with a compatible version of the GECK editing suite. As has Id Software's Rage due late next year.
Hell, they're even putting out mod tools for the new Call of Duty, the biggest cash cow franchise in the entire industry.
EDIT: Oh yeah, Valve mother fucker. They'll keep backing the PC modding community long term.
