Hey guys im really happy to see the Thief community is still burning after all this time. Its nice to know so many still regardThief as one of the greatest games of all time as do I :)
I have not played Thief 1 since 1998 and I am about to install it and play that classic piece of gamers gold once more.. but I am wondering if there is any high res re texture mod after all this time?
It would be grand to play the game in higher res if possible.
I am also wondering if there is a mod to allow me to play in wide screen 1440x900+ or preferably 1920x1080?
Also I am on Windows 7 and im wondering what kind of problems I am gunna have installing/playing the game under this OS?
Cheers! :)

Hiya thanks a lot for replying to show me your guide.. I was trying to install the Daemonite & ORGY packs but couldnt get that working so this looks more promising.
I ran into a problem though, in the readme for Thief EP it says use darkloader to "optimize" your installation first, but when I tried to press OK and it asked me if I want to optimize, it came back with some error in french, "le module something something 32bit".
I am guessing maybe it is because I am using 64bit windows 7?
I cannot seem to optimize again, when I open Darkloader it does not ask me to setup again and I cant see any button to re optimize. Argh... I dont have the slightest clue what im doing :(
I went ahead and ran install.bat anyway and thief crashes on running now.

You'll have to optimise Thief manually.
* Open your Thief folder.
* Create a new folder called "Res".
* Move all the .crf files into this new folder.
* Open the file "install.cfg" in a good text editor (Back it up first) ( Note that Windows Notepad may corrupt the file, I'd recommend using (
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm) Notepad++)
* Find the line which begins with "resname_base"
* Add the following to the end of the line:
The line should look something like this afterwards:
Code:
resname_base .\EP\Thief1+.\EP+.+.\Data\Res

Hmm so I just move all the .crf files from the root folder to the RES folder? How exactly does that help optimze thief out of curiosity?
I have some good news though, I reinstalled Thief Gold and just ran your enhancement patch without optimizing the install and it works like a treat.. I am only confused now how to get 32bit rendering working in DDFix.. I got the widescreen resolutions working but its still in 16bit
So is the optimization just for older PC's to help them run the new textures smoother because it seems to work fine for me without doing it :) I am onto level 2 now and not a single crash or anything using 1920x1080 16bit.
Cheers mate, great mod!

No, when Darkloader 'optimizes' all it does it move the crf files and patch install.cfg as NV instructed you to do. It has nothing to do with PC age. Those changes are required to install and play Fan Missions in T1/TG.

Ok so it isn't needed to run the enhancement pack Nameless Voice made?
Cheers

It's needed for any modification to any of the game's resources.
Basically, if there's a folder called obj and an obj.crf, then Thief will only look in the folder and ignore the .crf, meaning that you'd have only the EP objects and not the original objects. If the folder and the .crf are in different resources paths, then it works.

So I guess thats when you would see blue texture glitches etc... I have been through all of Lord Bafford manor and half of cragscleft and still no sign of any missing textures! Should I still optimize just to be safe?
On a side note, I still can't get 32bit working in DDFix.. I have done everything appart from optimize, do you think that is the problem?
Thanks again :)

Your game might be reading those files from the CD instead?
If the main obj.crf was being completely overridden, you would have no health shields (amongst other things).
