YEAH BOI! SWAT 5 out on the 13th! Finally a (non-Boomer Shooter) game from my country that I can actually be proud of.

I remember Swat 4 being a single player game in which there’s a tactical layer on top of the 3D FPS. In the tactical layer, you can issue command to other squad, then the two teams including the one you control, execute the commands - breaking down doors and tagging the hostile. Is this the same game?

Yes. They've been very deliberately trying to make a SWAT 4 iteration using today's tech.
(FYI, this player is running a lot of mods.)

can't wait to start playing this... i remember for SWAT 3 i added voice commands to it which made it even more fun / fluid to play. Not sure i ever played SWAT 4, i think i remember hearing it was way worse than SWAT 3 so i just forgot about it, there was just so much to play back in the day too :)

I like SWAT 4 a lot, but I've not played the third game. The level/mission design is great, in terms of both atmosphere and gameplay. There's a large mod (I think it's called SWAT Elite Force), and one of the things it adds is voice commands. I've not played a lot with it, but I liked what little I played.

SWAT 3 was a good game on the whole (if you mod it for modern systems), but Irrational took the formula to an amazing place to the point where there's no doubt about which one is the better game. The only thing which very badly let 3 down was the sewer level where you have to rush through on a timer before nukes explode and you have to run around shooting hazmat dudes in the dark. I found an old thread here asking for help, and immediately knew it would be the sewer nukes before even opening it.
I played a bit of Ready or Not in single-player a while back. It seems like a decent game, but still not quite on the level of SWAT 4. There is just something about the detail of the scenarios in 4 that make it amazing. If you read the briefing, some of the suspects might be on drugs or be elderly and not be able to take a shot from something less-than-lethal. It won't spell that out for you, but you have to discover it. Modern tactical shooters tend to lean more towards tactical-Barbie gear porn than the scenario (which I'm not necessarily complaining about. I love Ground Branch too).

I saw a Swat 4 TikTok the other day and I was surprised to see someone still playing it. I loved that game and played the multi-player a lot even though I wasn't that good at it and my system and internet caused a lot of lag problems. I thought the TikTok was showing Swat 4 because one of rooms looked exactly the same as one in Swat 4. I might have to give it a try.
