I'm not much of a shmup fan, but I have to give this thing credit for having some of the most outrageous-looking weapon effects I've seen in a game like this.
Trailer available at the site: (

Or skip the initial and bemusingly-sedate 1:43, and set lasers to apocalyptic: (

Without going to the extremes of Space Giraffe (where I understand that the visual effects get so overwhelming that you literally cannot see what is going on, and must instead make decisions based primarily on what you can
hear), this is certainly pushing some bright lights and pretty colours boundaries :)
Spotted via (

Ugh. No thanks, I generally prefer to see what I'm shooting.

I tried the demo and wasn't really convinced. I did three runs. Run one was pretty uneventful until it ended with an asteroid to the face, and in the next one I hit an unavoidable wall(?). The third was actually pretty good, with frantic maneuvering to dodge all the shit thrown at me, but it eventually broke down under the can't-see-shit levels of neon strobe light and I hit something again.
Pass.
As for shmups, I recently enjoyed Jamestown a lot, especially how it forces you to get better.

Space Giraffe just looks like a horrible yellow blurry mess from the get go. This however looks really stylish and nice. I like the additive and displacement effects going on there.
But nothing can replace Tumiki Fighters.

I love Jamestown, but the last level basically put me off the game for the time being.

This. The weapon effects are usually more than enough clutter without them distorting the screen.

It took me quite a few (frustrating) tries too. Try switching ships to the charge when you pick it up again. Might help.
