Alright so I've been trying to write more these days since I do want to be a writer as a career ;) And anyways I've kind of got an idea of this story I really want to write sort of slightly inspired by the Thief games (I don't want to ripoff the gameworld I'd rather create my own but still there are a lot of really cool things about the Thief universe); but I wanted to read a few books first that capture the sense of mystery and atmosphere that these games do, just to see how some authors convey those kinds of emotions.
So if you know of any well written books out there that have a really interesting style about them and can convey the kinds of feelings that the Thief series bring out in you please recommend them!
Sorry if that was a bit obtuse ;) Hope someone can make some sense of it.

Okay, these ARE
kids' books (the 10-13 set, I believe) but they are very enjoyable and the thievey action in them is a lot of fun. The semi-medieval-greek-byzantine setting always reminded me very much of The Dark Project. Because they are written for young people, they make quick, easy reads for adults who are willing to entertain their inner-tweens.
(

Unless you are *ahem* very much in touch with your inner 12-year-old, I'd just skip this one. The two sequals can easily stand alone. The main strength of this book is the characterization of the titular thief, Gen.)
(

I didn't realize Funke had written two sequels - I loved The Thief but agree with your perspective of it. I will have to seek out the Queen and King...

If you like the dark, "Pagany" aspects of Thief, I highly recommend Joseph Delaney's excellent and disturbing young adult series "The Last Apprentice".
