This wasn't a simple flipping off. What I did was...I dunno...something else entirely. I was physically drained by the end of that fight.
Now that I think about it, that's probably one of the reasons why DS is so popular with some people. It gets you so tense, so scared, so tightly wound up, that victory feels like a release. All those endorphins kicking around in your brain is probably the equivalent of a meth orgasm.

Yeah, if you learn the game, it has your brain's reward pathways screaming with joy/agony.

For me, the worst part was getting the game to work with GfWL.
This is
exactly why I asked about it. The last GfWL game I played was Bioshock 2 and I could only make that work in offline mode. Let's just say I'm not a fan of it.

Bear in mind that what everyone here is saying about Dark Souls is with GfWL as part of the equation. So it's really not a deal breaker.

The good thing is though, that once you've beaten him/it, you can go back to him in NG+ or with a different character and wipe the floor with him/it. I went back through game with a sorcerer and beat him/it first time and then spent the next 3 hours helping other people as a white phantom, because fuck that guy/thing.
That's one of the true joys of the phantom system. The boss beats the crap out of you 10 or 20 times in a row, then you finally get the fight down, and then you can toss down signs and beat the crap out of the boss in other dimensions. Over and over again. And usually, the owners of that dimension are quite grateful to have you do it.

For all those who be dissing kb/m: I have beaten the game. And 3/4s of NG+. All on a kb+m. And when I fought Smaug and Ornstein, I beat them on the first try. And the Four Kings. And Sheath the Scaleness. And Gwyn.
Suck it haters.

...but getting serious here (so serious I'm gonna double post), I could probably see DS being playable with a keyboard and mouse. If you were to set it up so that LMB is weak attack, RMB is shield bash/parry, shift is block, F to roll, and Q to strong attack, and whatever buttons you're most comfortable with set to items and magic, that'd be doable. The only thing you'd be missing out on is analog movement, but you could probably set walking and running to a toggle.
I still think it'd be better with a gamepad, but it'd be at least playable with a kb/m.

Playable, sure, but why would you do that to yourself? That's the whole point here. The way the controls are set up -- especially given the fact that sometimes you'll want to walk slow -- a gamepad is the way to go.
Besides. Being elitist about control schemes is just stupid in this day and age. Gamepads aren't expensive and unless you're really fucking boring and only play old PC games where a keyboard is recommended (and gamepads aren't supported anyway) you'll be glad to have it.
