Recommend me some smart/thoughprovoking movies or dark/sarcastic pieces - by Yakoob

Mmm thanks for all the suggestions! Looks like many of these were small releases/foreign/indie so it may be hard to track em down.
@fett - yep seen all those, pretty much all of the "Big release" movies. But I might have missed something here and there so thanks for suggestions anyway!
@Neb - hmm "psychological thrillers" I dont know if I would describe FightClub or Black Swan as thrillers. Psychological, though, definitely is the right word!

Yeah, they are both psychological thrillers.

Caché, 2001 A Space Odyssey, Eyes Wide Shut, Solaris (1972), Mulholland Drive ( - it's Lynch but should be ok for your threshold, I think you saw it though).

dark/sarcastic pieces
I liked
(http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1262981/) World's Greatest Dad in that vein. Don't let the fact that Robin Williams is in it put you off, he's not annoying in this movie, it's nothing like Patch Adams or most of his other comedies.
The movie has some heart and is not nearly as mean-spirited as something like In The Company Of Men, but it's still darker than most comedies.
If you choose to watch it, let me know what you think of it.

Another mainstream title that you've probably watched but (
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0137363/) Arlington Road is worth checking out if you've missed it.

Sin City and Pulp Fiction are cool, dark and entertaining pieces of intelligent cinema. I think Sin City is particularly well-written and well-directed. That black and white apocalyptic style is unmatched.
Pulp Fiction is mostly about people smoking, using drugs and doing psychedelic things. Quite a trip in there. Watch this if Sin City is too violent and desolate for your tastes.
And for even more mainstream viewers, The Bourne Identity has been called "the thinking man's action movie". Well that's a bold (and false) claim. There's nothing brainy going on there. But the style is sophisticated enough it will keep you entertained.
Also please avoid Blade Runner and 2001: A Space Odyssey. Pretentious, expensive sci-fi movies that don't live up to the hype. They even failed to explain their own plots, so why should we bother.:nono:

Wow. Just...wow.

Don't let the fact that it's written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait put you off either. It's pretty good. And, judging by the trailer, Bobcat's latest movie
God Bless America certainly seems to fill your dark/sarcastic critera as well.

Killing people is fun and liberating! :D
And it's a great way of resolving conflicts!
Killing others shows that you have deep feelings without making you look like a whiny bitch!
Instead you'll become an hero!
Let's start at the high schools, because you know, they're full of shallow assholes anyway!
