Recommend me some smart/thoughprovoking movies or dark/sarcastic pieces - by Yakoob

That would be pretty neat, set up Vent or Skype conference. Works better if we make it a goal to scrutinize / make fun of the movie as much as possible. But I agree, not very practical.
Ah of course. I was thinking of Livestream where anyone can just click the link, but they've been cracking down on that. But a closed-circuit way like some conferencing program would be cool. Yeah all the fun is commenting on the side while it's going on. As for practicality, I was thinking people could just put it up while they're watching a movie for themselves
anyway, and if anyone else is around they can hop on... not like a formal thing you'd actually organize.

It's been mentioned a few times, but I honestly didn't like it. Two hours of Goerge Clooney stumbling around a ship. Can we get to the point already?
(But then again I watched it when I was like 13 too, so maybe a re watch is in order)
Tarkovsky not Sodenbergh. Although, if you don't like Clooney wandering around, I guess you won't have the patience for Tarkovsky either :p (nevermind him being the best director of all time).

Again,
Tarkovsky's Solaris. Not the Hollywood remake. Speaking of Tarkovsky, Stalker's thought provoking, too.
Oh, and based purely on the number of shots I had to down after watching just to stop the shakes, I'd recommend Pan's Labyrinth.
Damn, Kuuso'd.

I see Jacob's Ladder is on there, and that's certainly worth a mention, given that Japanese horror's been ripping it off for 20 years.
... Actually, I think Apocalypse Now qualifies, too. There's a surreal atmosphere to it that I don't think was unintentional.

Oy, Jacob's Ladder was good, albeit I hated the needlessly overxplained ending; keeping it vague would have worked better imho. But this and Silent Hill are pretty much brothers!

waiting for 242 to come in and say it's an action movie

Yeah, the first link I posted was to the list sorted by rating, but then I was actually looking at the ratings & thinking this has to be just some guy's opinion the way some of these are rated so low, not any credible measure of "objective merit" or popular rating or whatever. So I changed the link to the alphabetical list. I wouldn't trust the ratings too much, unless your tastes are like that guy.

One that checks all your boxes is The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle. Not sure anyone else has seen this film but I recommend it highly.
