Recommend some semi obscure FPS games from the last 5 years that will run on my comp - by io organic industrialism

Hmm... another self serving thread, I seem to be making a lot of these lately :ebil:
This is it ... I have finally made the decision not to "keep up with the joneses" on computer hardware. I kept mostly current (usually lagging about 1 generation behind) for the past 10 years. But this time, things are different... Life is different, having kids, mortgage, bills, etc... Just doesn't leave much expendable income to waste on things like hardware, especially when there are so many classic games that I haven't even played yet. I've been on a huge retro kick for the past 2 years or so and that doesn't seem to be slowing down at all. Which is a GREAT thing...
But I don't think I've played a proper first person shooter for over a year now, and I'm starting to itch for it again soon. But, I can't play modern games anymore (unless at low detail, which I don't really consider worth it because it ruins the experience too much -- I'd rather wait a few years), and I don't really feel like re-playing anything right now.
So here are my specs -- Intel Core 2 duo e4300, Geforce 7800 GS AGP, 1GB RAM. I mostly like sci-fi kind of FPS games, here are some of the ones I've enjoyed: Far Cry, NOLF, Quake, Hexen, HL2, Riddick, UT series, Painkiller, stuff like that. But, you can recommend any style.
To give you an idea of where the cutoff of my computer's playing ability is: It can handle UT3 brilliantly. Bioshock runs OK. Far Cry 2 runs like crap, and Call of Juarez unfortunately also runs like crap. So the date cutoff is sometime between 2006-2007, depending on the game.
So are there any good FPS games perhaps from 2002-2006 that I may not have heard of?

Why FPS games? Single-player action games age the worst.
The only FPS I'd consider playing today is Operation Flashpoint.

I don't know how obscure it would be, but Stalker seems right up your alley if you haven't played it.
You may also enjoy Quake 4.
For multiplayer, you can't go wrong with Valve games- particularly TF2 which I need to get back into.
Unfortunately "good" and "obscure" are mostly mutually exclusive these days.

F.E.A.R, obviously. If you don't mind repetitive level design, that is. And, as people have said in that other thread, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is particularly awesome. Both of them aren't very heavy on the sci-fi elements, but they're there. There's also Condemned, which is less popular than F.E.A.R, though it's more of a mutilated hobo fisticuffs simulator than anything else. But hey, by virtue of that it can also be quite creepy.
Alternatively, I could have said Prey, which has plenty of sci-fi inspiration, but it's violently samey despite all the potential it had to be something greater than the somewhat average, at-times inspired shooter that it is.

Yeah I mean for real, Thief games are so crappy, that nobody even makes fan missions for them anymore ...
;)
I actually wonder why anybody with a viewpoint like that would be on
these forums.
Riddle me this, denisv?

T DS is a great shooter, hurrr....
I'm not sure how many people actually got around to playing Painkiller, but as far as a twitch shooter goes, it's the best I have played in a long time, if not ever. It's ridiculously difficult towards the end though.

Penumbra is good if your'e into getting a bit creeped out and you like stealthy/puzzle gameplay.
For action. Pariah was good, and now its really cheap. The story was riddled with bullet holes when the non-english-as-a-first-language dev's decided to do it in english, but the game play is pretty solid, that one is unreal engine 2.
Alpha Prime is another one that can be thrown in that category.
There's also elder scrolls. Oblivion is the only one I've played, and i wasn't spoiled by the apparent awesomeness of Morrowind that I thought Oblivion sucked, So i'd recommend it.
Also I'd 2nd Snowblind. I've actually had it for a couple years and I"ve never gotten far into it, but mostly thats because I've been more interested in other games.

Seconded. Awesome game, Deus-ex should have played like this. Shame about the complete lack of Deus-esque elements.
