Vietcong 2 and Hidden and Dangerous 2 might be good for you as well, though some people didn't like one or the other for some reason.
Speaking of which, whatever the hell happened to enemy in sight...

For action. Pariah was good, and now its really cheap. The story was riddled with bullet holes when the non-english-as-a-first-language dev's decided to do it in english, but the game play is pretty solid, that one is unreal engine 2.
A thing to note about Pariah is that it has Starforce, which might be a deal-breaker for some.
You really should consider getting Orange Box, if you've only played HL2. I've gotten literally several hundred hours of enjoyment out of the thing, so much so that I almost feel I should Paypal Valve some extra.
It's not exactly obscure, but still :p

Mass Effect!
just going with the same definitions of "obscure" and "FPS" as most of the other posters
Edit: Serious answer - Republic Commando, which no one played for some reason despite the branding

Multiplayer FPS age a lot faster. Player numbers dwindle over time, it gets to the point where if you wanna play game X, then you'll have to put with some high ping server on the other side of the world, ie in Germany or the like. There's always exceptions to the rule, like Counter-Strike v1.6.

Seconded. Awesome game, Deus-ex should have played like this. Shame about the complete lack of Deus-esque elements.
Congratulations. You officially make less sense than denisv.

I understand that sentence despite the poor wording. Deus Ex was a shooter/RPG hybrid, but the shooter bit was, well, not quite up to par. Project Snowblind on the other hand bears some similarity to the Deus Ex setting (which is understandable considering how it was conceived), and has the shooting done right, but is sadly missing the whole RPG aspect.

Okay, okay, OBS-CUR-IT-TAY --
Narbacular Drop: Otherwise known as 'That Indie Portal Game', before the team was whisked away to Valve to make Portal.
Pathologic: Because not only is the game's title obscure, but also everything else about it, from the wonderfully broken translation to the gameplay mechanics. Read up on the Eurogamer review for a very balanced and insightful opinion of it.
Darkstar One: Is not an FPS, but I'm feeling flippant. It's an arcade space fighter a la Freelancer that passed under most people's radar when it released.
SiN Episodes: There's, like, one episode. But it's SiN. Like erm, NiN but with an S? Six Inch Nails. Yes. Or perhaps Seven? Certainly less painful than nine, anyhow, and way less painful than ten.
Hang on, what was I talking about again? Oh right, shooters. Mmm, shooters...
Since you liked Painkiller, I'd suggest trying all the Serious Sams for some oldskool gaming goodness. Try those first if you haven't already.
