Recommend some semi obscure FPS games from the last 5 years that will run on my comp - by io organic industrialism

You could give Aliens vs Predator 2 a look.
I recently completed it, and (whilst it does lose some of the atmosphere in comparison to AvP1) it's highly decent. Also, it's worth it just for that Alien mission.

Congratulations. You officially make less sense than denisv.
That's probably because you haven't played Project Snowblind, it's a straight shooter set in the Deus-ex universe.
edit, beaten to it. I actually thought Deus-esque was a fun way of putting it.

http://www.ssrf.se/ort/images/hnd2.jpgBrilliant single player. Very repayable with different approaches and outcomes of missions depending on how you play and reactions to things. Disguise system is half good half a bit too arcadey. Proper inventory system, proper tactics, can issue realtime or via tactical map. Usually though you end up just taking control of one guy though maybe i should try to use the tactical map more.
Leaning, climbing, different speeds and all that are quite nice.
The game is very non scripted and almost thief/deusex like in the different approaches you can take (within the scope of the game however - it's not like you can magically talk your way out of problems, it's still a combat game).
Unfortunately the game wanks over the american weapons and makes the british ones really shit - the enfield is horribly inaccurate and not really faster than the other bolt actions.
Also, pistols are rather rather crap and take about 3 or more shots to kill.
The damage is much better in single player but in multiplayer it's crap. Rifles take generally 2 body shots to kill and collision detection is so bad that with them you will almost never get a head shot in multiplayer especially at range. Basically the mp44 and bar (strangely allowed to shoot from hip yet it wasn't and bren could but isn't allowed :S).
I wouldn't recommend multiplayer for these reasons. The collision detection one is a real issue and the machine guns basically have a super advantage even at long range.
It's all very run and gun and lag dancing at close range sadly. Also, there is no option for banning from servers. People have made scripts to ban by username but people can easily just change there name. The game is full of glitchers who go inside of walls and shoot people. Also those that cheat to get bazookas or give their guns 250 shot or allow themselves to move really fast / give themselves the enemies uniform.
The multiplayer could have been really good if it was realistic like the real game. The objectives based multiplayer is really nice actually, if you are playing with the right kind of people and kind of restrict assault rifle use (in this game the bar is basically used as an assault rifle in multiplayer).
Another thing that ruins multiplayer is that many servers allow 3rd person view in it, which means that everyone can see around corners, over your cover etc so know exactly where you are. Also, cos the game is glitchy, people don't necessarily shoot from where their hitbox is, so they end up shooting over their cover but being still hidden by it (or almost hidden) and (even if a bit visible) the game doesn't allow you to shoot them but they can shoot you.
There are also servers that give you 4 grenades on spawn and people just spam spawn points with them on occupation maps (it counts down to when players spawn.
These problems only apply to multiplayer though and if you can find some good people to play with that won't ruin it then even multiplayer can be quite fun but by no means perfect. Objectives multiplayer is really good though.
Good for coop though (available in sabre squadron, the add on only (courage under fire is h&d2 plus the addon).
I would highly recommend the game though, for the singleplayer, coop and providing you can find some good people to play with multiplayer too. I can't really think of a good bolt action rifle multiplayer game to be honest though :( I heard of red orchestra, but to be honest, aren't all the maps occupation based and don't really have proper objectives, just "capture this point".

Medal of Honor Heroes for the Wii. Nothing is more satisfying then scoring a perfect headshot with pixel-perfect precision from an insane distance, same old boring just got fun.

You guys excel at making me feel like shit for me opinions :-(
If people on the internet can succeed at making you feel like shit, I think you need to have a reality check, BIZAAATCH :joke:
Come on now, we're all friends here. And everybody has their own opinion. It's all cool.

I thought the enfield was a really good weapon in H&D2, didn't have as big a scope on it as the K98 or the springfield but it shot faster and had a ten round mag, was perfect for mid-long range sniping, plus you can reload it, unlike the springfield/garand. Don't remember it being particularly inaccurate, though obviously trying to snipe the guards on the opposite end of spaghetti airport is a waste of ammo.
The pistols weren't completely useless but after a few missions your men are generally strong enough to take a sten gun over the shoulder so you probably do that instead.
And though the multiplayer wasn't fantastic, I still had fun with it for a while. Plus there's a mod which lets you play the original campaign in coop which is good fun.

The view of the weapons is mostly taken from multiplayer. Even at shorter range, the enfield is far far less accurate than that of the other sniper rifles. The springfield is pretty much dead on, as is the arisaka. The k98 is too but it's sight is a bit less precise. The enfield doesn't really fire that faster than them either, not as much as real life at least.
Mind you this is all amplified by the crap netcode and multiplayer collision detection.
Concerning the pistol, I was really talking about multiplayer. For singleplayer it works cos they die in a more realistic number of shots and also aren't running around madly. Pity you can't actually aim the pistols either.
And yer you generally don't need pistols in the singleplayer as you can generally get away with a light smg and a rifle.
I just tested and online it takes 5 body shots to kill with the worst pistol (the enfield .38).
As for medal of honour - knowing the scripted arcadey shoot down millions of foes of the normal games, I very much doubt that would be what I am looking for (same as call of duty). I could be wrong though. H&D2 is a very different type of game to those two (and a much better one).
steo on 6/12/2008 at 13:19
Well the enfield .38 is useless in SP too but I was really referring to the colt .45 and the luger.

I wouldn't recommend Undying. It suffers from the same problem Doom 3 has- it gets boring very, very quickly. Too many monsters, too much action, not enough suspense, NOT ENOUGH EXPLORATION. Come on, you got a big fucking mansion and the entire grounds surrounding it, you could've had a first person Alone in the Dark or something like that, but noooo it's Doom 3 before Doom 3 was even announced.
