I recently bought my girlfriend Botanicula, which she absolutely adored. She is not generally a gamer, but she became thoroughly addicted to this game to the extent that she immediately started a new game when she'd finished.
Now, wanting to put a smile on her stupid little face, I followed up with Peggle, which she says she enjoys, but I can tell it is not with the same fervour as she hasn't mentioned it much, so my guess is that she prefers games with narrative.
I am going to get her Machinarium obvioulsy, but was wondering if there were any other charming / dawwww PC games knocking about which would scratch that itch.

How about Trine? Gorgeous, charming, not-super-difficult... the narrative isn't its strongest point though, but she might still like the fun gameplay and the wonderful visuals.
And then there's Trine 2 obviously, but I can't comment on that one since I haven't played it (yet).

Did she say she liked Botanicula coz it was "cute"? I'd imagne it'd hold appeal for a non-gamer due to being quite easy to play, not requiring much hand-eye coordination or twitch-reflexes. Machinarium is probably a good next game yeah. Other stuff in that area you might wanna check out is Windosill, Samorost and Tiny Bang Story (tho I haven't played those last 2). Plants vs Zombies is pretty great too, but a defenite step up in difficulty. Next step after that would be maybe Superbrothers:Sword & Sworcery EP, which is quite meaty without being overly difficult gameplaywise, and could well serve as a gateway-drug to more serious gaming.
The Trines are great, but too deep-end. If you wanna do some multiplayer gaming one of the Worms games might be a good bet. It's fun even if you mess up a lot. :)

Boogie Bunnies, if you've got an XBox 360 and a short attention span.
I uh, downloaded it for a friend

Ahhhh Viva Pinata! I'd forgotten about that. Is that likely to run on a relatively modest laptop? If so, that would be ideal I'm sure as it's not only cute and non-twitch, it is also lengthy :)
Henke - I'll for sure be checking out Samorost. Windosill is a good 'un, I'd forgotten about that.
Tomi - I fear Trine may call on gaming skills she doesn't have, but I own it, so I'll let her give it a spin next time she is over.
Ulukai - PC only I fear. If she finds herself getting into gaming in a big way, then a console is an obvious consideration since she owns a nice tv and her laptop is not on a desk, so there are posture considerations.

Nifflas's games -- Knytt, Knytt Stories, & Within a Deep Forest.
Nelly Cootalot maybe (female-centric adventure game).
Some Minecraft mods drift into cute territory.
Basically... games boyfriends originally make for their girlfriends tend to (unsurprisingly) be good games for boyfriends to play with girlfriends.
Also:
Thatgamecompany games -- Flower, Flow, & Journey (from what everybody is saying about it).
Maybe something like Crayon Physics. Simple, cute puzzle game.
