this may be a silly question as I know very little about the T3ed and such but what are the chances of getting T1 and T2 remade with the new engine? ala HL source etc? I love the original thief games tho they are looking a little dated. . . I was just wondering if there is any way of using the T3 engine to recreate the original games. I think that would be interesting to play! sorry if this has been discussed before and I've missed the thread! :)

Why would you want to re-release T1 and T2 with a insuperior game engine? It's clunky as anything, the animations, no wadable water, rope arrows etc.
If anything a better idea would be to improve the resolution of the graphics in the earlier games (if possible).

Haven't we seen a thread like this before?
Heh, perhaps it would help if the mods made the search button REALLY BIG! ;)

Thief 2 already goes up to 1600x1200, not sure how much more resolution you want.
You probably mean just the idea of improving the graphics somehow, but it's not really possible other than replacing some of the not-already-256x256-maxed textures, but it wouldn't make a huge difference. Nothing can be done about the lighting, adding normal-mapping, or anything advanced like that. You could replace all the objects with higher polycount ones, but again it wouldn't make a huge difference.
Current Thief 2 FMs have pretty much maxed the engine out as much as possible, way beyond it's warranty. Kind of like the 1970's space shuttles still in use today, very much in need of full replacement, no more upgrades possible.

Awhile ago, there was someone looking into upping the texture resolution and object limits, through some rather 'hackish' methods in T2 Dromed. I haven't been in contact with them for awhile, but if some of the programmers here were to look into it, they may find it possible. Just imagine T2 levels with 512 x 512 max textures. Would look damn good. :)

Why not remake T3 levels in DromEd instead? :p
Not that I would like to see that. And I doubt anyone would want to do it, anyway.

Really nothing stopping anyone from making T3 in T1 and 2. It should all be doable.
