I can respect that design decision. I guess that they probably labored over the decision to pull a traditionally FPS into 3rd person, so maybe it really is for the best. Time will tell.
...or that they simply just took the existing open world gameplay infrastructure that they had created for Saint's Row and went from there.

Played the demo, a few times, here's some thoughts:
* My first playthough wasn't all that much fun. I followed the objectives and played the mission through. It was fairly short and a large portion of the mission consisted of on-rail shooting. On my second playthrough I decided to ignore the objectives and just fuck shit up. This was a lot more fun. I made it my objective to demolish the first building I saw using only the hammer. After that I stole an armored truck and plowed straight through a big administrative building.
* the light-yellow crosshair is occasionally hard to see against the mostly yellow/brown/gray background.
* vehicle physics are nothing to write home about, they're on the same level as those in Far Cry.
* When it comes to games that promises you'll get to "destroy everything" RF Guerilla feels like it might be the best one yet. However the destruction engine isn't perfect. In a few places I've encountered that the structural integrity doesn't behave like it should. For instance at one point I found some tripod-windmills. After I'd destroyed 2 of the tripods legs it was still standing when the one remaining leg clearly shouldn't be able to support the weight of the windmill. Same thing happened with a portable shithouse I found, after I'd smashed down three of it's walls(and the septic tank) the roof was still up there, supported only by what little was left of the 4th wall. The roofs of the bigger buildings seem to come crashing down realistically though, when enough bearing walls have been demolished.
* the controlls (on X360) are pretty good. The weapon select system is as intuitive as that in HL2 or Saints Row. Most of the weapons are pretty bog-standard, but the hammer is a real treat. Pressing the primary fire swings it horizontaly and secondary swings it down. The second on is useful if you mange to get on top of a building and want to make a quick entry downwards.
This might just be a day-one purchase for me. :D The demo is certainly one of the best I've ever played. Right up there with the GTA, Carmageddon and skate demos. Oh, if anyone finds some cheats/hacks to remove the time-limit/out-of-gamezone-gameovering, lemme know!

They better fix the AI for the PS3 version at least, it's absolutely retarted, gets stuck everywhere, running into walls, meh.. Destroying things is cool but the framerate doesn't like it.

Yeah, the stress engine could use some touching up. But it is still very satisfying to place charges on a building's roof and watch it collapse around your enemies after you blow the supports to hell.
I also didn't actually try to do the mission until about my 3rd or 4th playthrough; I just went around smashing things and blowing shit up. Mostly because I wanted to see for myself how this new GeoMod 2.0 worked.
It is definitely refreshing to see someone actually put some time into their work and make something great again. Volition & THQ are definitely going to get my money when I get my 1st paycheck at the end of next week. :thumb:

This is ridiculous. I've spent the last half an hour blowing stuff up over and over and causing general mayhem. And I'm not tired of it! It's like the demo speaks to my inner child. Every minute there's something or the other which makes me chortle with glee.
Blowing stuff up, reducing buildings to splinters, throwing sticky bombs at people's faces... it's all just ridiculously entertaining. I'm definitely watching this one. :thumb: Hope it has a story worth sitting through though, 'cause there was none to speak of in the demo.
